Interesting that the bit about Marvel's price increases is followed by the bit about Vertigo's price decreases (if only for one issue).

Youtube is a real entertainment channel, and fanfiction is real entertainment, in that people consume that media for their own entertainment, the same way they do comics they buy or movies they pay to see. The difference is how they are regarded, and how money is made from them.

One is legitimate and "official", usually edited and marketed extensively and professionally, and those that are involved with it can make an income from it. The other is casual, disposable, and varies greatly in quality, but there is so much of it that chances are there is something to your liking, and if not, it's in your power to create it, but you are very rarely able to make money from it, unless you can get away with violated copyright/intellectual property laws somehow.

I've heard it suggested that companies like Marvel and DC should find a way to bring those pirates, who scan and distribute their comics online every Wednesday, into the fold somehow. I don't know how it could work, but I think it would be interesting to explore the idea of getting readers more involved creatively somehow, as way of keeping them interested and buying.
