Totally agree with Nick Marino that when you can't get a trade or an issue then its time to bit torrent it. And if you want to keep me from the best quality works of my hobby and love then stop me with technology. I am so tired of greed keeping us from entertainment I want to see...Watchmen anyone. Happily cooler heads prevailed there.

Just so you know I looked into it and Charles Atlas and DC settled out of court on this issue for an undisclosed amount and settlement.

Hey nice writeup and thanks for the link!

This was great...
"I find it interesting that, despite his muscles, Flex is a hero who largely eschews violence. He doesn’t punch or kick to fight evil. He simply poses"
You should probably do a whole post on the powers of Muscle Mystery. Just sayin.

Bah. I knew you'd beat me to a feature I was planning, but I didn't think you'd do it among your first five installments! *sulks*

You're quite right, though. It certainly should be reprinted. I've bought back issue sets twice as gifts, it's so darn lovely.

D'oh! Sorry about that Matt.

While it isn't as obvious as Animal Man, I do think FM has it's moments of wall-breaking. There's a scene at the end for instance where Flex is extending his hand to the story's villain, but Quitely's POV makes it look like he's directly addressing the reader.

Most humbly. <a href="http://www.highway-62.com/blog/archives/2003/07/the_transmigration_of_flex_men.htm" rel="nofollow">You missed one.</a>

Great piece. But I fear that the book will just have to live on in scans rather than a bookshelf-tailored edition.

Though I'd argue the fourth wall being broken particularly in FLEX. There's multiple layers to the narrative, and the layers certainly bleed into one another with frightening regularity. But it's tough for me to recall "I can see you!" moments as in ANIMAL MAN (which is just as much a requiem for the silver age) as FLEX is.

Of course now I have an excuse to re-read it to see if I'm misremembering or not.

i buy almost everything i read, just because i'm legit like that. but i definitely had to torrent this one because there's no reasonable way to find it in 3d form!!! only problem is, i got this bad boy a few months ago and my paper floppies tend to take precedence over anything that's digital (mostly because "reading time" is my bus ride to and from work, and i don't have a good way to read digital comics on the bus). so it's been sitting on my external drive for months now, neglected and lonely.
