Drawn and Quarterly is a leader in the indie scene of book publishing. Comics will have to migrate directly to book form. With trying times, new ideas will arise and Drawn and Quarterly will lead the way. Trim the fat and get the best bang for your buck. Between Drawn and Quarterly and Fantagraphics both had their ups and downs a few years ago are creating from what I see a new path to preservation as indie publishers. They have no choice. I am sure others will copy their business plan. Both have their own stores and are integrated in the fabric of their cities and have a vibrant integration within. I remember a few years ago when the graphic novel section was part of the sci-fi section in book stores. There stood a few books from both Drawn and Quarterly and Fantagraphics with no companions. Turn the clock forward and both DC and Marvel muscled their way into the shops along with other book publishers who never published any graphic novels. Between Chris and Peggy, they are beating down new roads to get the message across. I am not worried for the the industry. Certain publishers will have to go away because they had no business publishing graphic novels, they just wanted to join the bandwagon. There is so much room that can keep these books afloat. Diamond is missing the boat but they too have to survive. When the dust clears Drawn and Quarterly will be standing tall and I am sure Fantagraphics will too. Not to take anything away from other publishers, but you have to give these guys credit.
