Having had the chance to read it myself now, I can't say I agree. I thought is was very good. It built a nice foundation for the character, briefly touched on his influence and legacy within the DCU and re-established the very important friendship with Hal Jordan, all while introducing a compelling mystery and a new wrinkle/motivation for Barry from his past. I think Johns is being very careful and I feel his presentation of Barry as a person back from dead who doesn't know why is set up specifically to speak to readers' concerns along those same lines. Again, it feels like a foundation from which Johns will build his world and his purpose and convert skeptics. The artwork was EVS, take it or leave it. He's not my favorite, but he is good. I'm hoping we get Ivan Reis for the monthly, myself. All in all, a very good beginning, in my opinion. No, it didn't necessarily take off running (so to speak), but I expect it will pick up considerable steam in future issues and when all is said and done, the completed story will be all the better for having taken its time to establish the status quo properly. If an additional issue allows them to more fully flesh everything out, that's all the better.
