Marvel cranks the publicity up a notch for the return of Steve Rogers with this six-page preview of Captain America: Reborn #1, courtesy of The Los Angeles Times’ Hero Complex blog.

The five-issue miniseries, by Ed Brubaker, Bryan Hitch and Butch Guice, debuts on July 1.

Alright so in six pages we get what we’ve known for forever: Captain America originally fought Nazis, he died, Bucky took over.

geez, josh, must have taken you forever to think of that comeback.

Well… in all fairness to josh, that’s all the promo gave us…

I’m just saying this was supposed to some amazing giant ordeal on behalf of Marvel’s part. Seems to be that the world at large hasn’t noticed and most fans are in the midst of indifference

It looks as if either Hitch is just loose pencils and/or breakdowns, or Guice is really asserting his influence over the pencils. Which is fine by me.

I’m just glad Marvel didn’t let Jeph Loeb anywhere near this project.

Bob, if you’ll look at the time stamps, you’ll see that Josh came up with that response in less that 11 minutes.

11 minutes does not equal forever.

As to the comic, who cares. It’s just another comic book. 100s of them come out every month.

YYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!

I fail to perceive why this “event” is interesting in any way. Yes, Ed Brubaker is a great writer – However, after Arnim Zola and Red Skull were removed from the board – I’ve been bored. I find Arnim Zola and Red Skull to be far more interesting characters than Bucky(porn name) or Steve Rogers. That’s not to say that I subscribe to their EVIL Philosophies – I’m just saying that stories focused on them tend to be more exciting and can go in new directions other than the “legacy” stories that have been told ad infinitum.

Incognito by Brubaker IS FAR MORE FASCINATING.

I have a good feeling this will be a good book. Brubaker IS Captain America right now. And I really dug Hitch’s work on Ultimates. But my question is, will this come out on schedule? Or will we see another Ultimates/Civil War debacle where the book gets delayed? Granted it probably won’t be tied into any other titles (except maybe Captain America) so if it is delayed its not like it will ruin the story momentum a la Civil War. Hopefully they are far enough ahead to not have to worry about this and like others have said, maybe Guice is pulling more weight on the art and that will help keep it on schedule.

I guess this is not a huge event since everyone was pretty much expecting this at some point. I am still excited anyway just because Steve is one of my favorite characters. That being said, I have loved Bucky as Cap in his place, but I am curious to see how they work it all out for this story. I am sure Bucky will still have a highly important role and maybe it will be a situation we enjoy even more. Bru has been putting out some quality Cap books so I expect this to continue the trend.
