One point to consider: what about those who missed picking up the issues due to Irredeemable selling out?

Wouldn't the trades benefit them?

"Its too soon for a catch up issue especially since there is a trade due at the same time. unless the sales are in the toilet."

Did you even read the article? People can get caught up by buying the trade, and then continuing to read the series with issue 5.

And I think it's interesting that the trade is so cheap since Boom's issue prices are 3.99, it definitely makes the trade more appeasing than the singles.

I guess I can see complaining about this if I were buying it all along, but isn't that a bit like complaining that you paid $10 to see a movie and then someone waited and paid $5 to see it in a second run theater?

It just seems like good business to me. I'm sure there are plenty of buyers like me who weren't going to pick up this series at all, and are now going to give it a try. If it's a good book, I'll be back for more, so it seems to be a good promotional idea to me.

As for new readers thinking it's normally a $1 book, they'd have to be pretty new to comics to think there are normally $1 books on the market!

That's a quick turn around time for a trade. Not that I mind, since I was just going to pick up the trade anyway, but this can't really convince a lot of people to buy single issues (not priced 99 cents).

And new readers are going to be thinking "Where the hell do they get off charging $11 for four 99 cent comics?". They might have wanted to space that out a little.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand I'm glad it provides readers a chance to jump onto a series that they missed getting. I did this recently with Dynamo 5. However...on the other hand it "feels" wrong to me. It "rewards" those that wait for the trade while those of us that bought the monthly issues paid an extra $6 for the same story.
