Can't wait to see what this ultimately does for DC. I wonder if DC will collect the individual characters in print or the whole danged thing. My hope is that it will get collected in oversized format for this top grade material.

Also, is the addition of the Deadman strip news to anyone else, or did I just happen to miss that every time?

@mel:

"But why aren’t they actually serializing it in the print edition itself instead of only online after the initial installment?? How many people are going to actually see the first installment in the print edition and then continue to go online to seek the rest out???"

Because it's better than nothing. Since the release of this strip is, I'm sure to publicize the Wednesday Comics project, DC probably paid USA Today to print the first strip to get people interested in the rest of the project. Also, I'm quite sure that USA Today will run a "Check out Superman on our website!" kind of blurb on the front page of the Life section each week, so don't think people will just forget about. There will be reminders. Wouldn't be surprised if USA Today decided to pick up the final strip as well.

Personally, I think this is a stroke of genius for whomever at DC. Newspaper-style comics in the nation's most widely-read newspapaper (and probably the only one without a serious circulation problem right now)? Genius.

"I was just thinking the other day how distributing Wednesday Comics as a newspaper supplement might have been a smarter distribution method, if DC could make it work. Though the $3.99 price tag is not inappropriate for the format and the caliber of creators involved, $3.99 weekly is still a huge commitment and could cannibalize readership of other series. But giving the content away to however many hundreds of thousands of Sunday newspaper readers might bring new customers to comic shops. Printing on that kind of volume would reduce per-unit cost and, though perhaps this is a bit optimistic, billing this as a revitalized comics section might lead a few people to pick up the print edition of a newspaper."

Hey, it worked for Will Eisner's The Spirit!
Although, I think using BOTH Superman AND Batman simultaneously is overkill.
Using one, then the other (and then Wonder Woman) as the "marquee" character would've been the way to go.
