What are the seminal comics of the Bronze Age?
- Posted on July 9, 2009 - 01:00 PM by Chris Mautner

X-Men #94
That's the question penned by the aptly named Comics Bronze Age site. There are some good picks here, though they perhaps unsurprisingly stick by and large to the Big Two, with a bone thrown to Cerebus and Elfquest. I'm surprised, however, that Howard the Duck doesn't get a mention. Poor Steve Gerber.
So what books would you add and why?

The entirety of Kirby's Fourth World work, because it's the best thing ever.

Captain America Issues 207 - 213 by Jack Kirby (Arnim Zola, Red Skull and Primus). Some really cool Jack Kirby Ideas.
I agree with "The Entirety of Kirby's Fourth World".
I'd add:
- Kamandi by Jack Kirby
- OMAC by Jack Kirby
- The Eternals by Jack Kirby

I was going to just say "Did Kirby do it? Yeah, throw it up there."

Supergirl #1 (1972) - Why? Because I'll never be able to afford Superman #1.
Shazam #1 (1973) - Superman introduces Billy Batson and "The Original Captain Marvel," as C.C. Beck illustrates the long-awaited return of the Big Red Cheese.
The Shadow #1 (1973) - M. W. Kaluta ushers the original dark knight into a whole new era.
Superman #276 - Features the story that readers believed DC "would never dare print!" Superman versus Captain Marvel! Well, kinda-sorta.
Super Friends #1 (1976) - Because in the 1970s nothin' was cooler than the Super Friends.
Iron Fist #1 (1975) - "Steel smashing first Issue" featuring the writing of Chris Claremont, the art of John Byrne -- and Iron First going toe-to-toe with Iron Man.
Spectacular Spider-Man #1 (1976) - The first issue of yet another Spider-Man series.
Spidey Super Stories #1 (1974) - Because you can never have too much Spider-Man, right?
Black Panther #1 (1977) - First issue of the Panther's self-titled series, with words and pictures by Jack Kirby
Powerman and Iron Fist #50 (1978) - Because it's one of the coolest comics books ever made.
