DC’s Great Ten (finally) gets a miniseries
DC Comics announced this morning that the Great Ten, the Chinese government-sponsored superhero team introduced in 52, will star in its own 10-issue miniseries beginning in November.
The news comes more than two years after the title was first mentioned (along with Booster Gold and Infinity Inc.).
The miniseries will be written by Tony Bedard and penciled by Scott McDaniel, with covers by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau.
Created by Grant Morrison, the Great Ten was introduced in 52 #6 (June 2006). Members include Accomplished Perfect Physician, August General in Iron, Ghost Fox Killer, Mother of Champions and Seven Deadly Brothers.
DC’s The Source has preview art from the series.

Tony Bedard writing a group of second-tier DC heroes (outside the US even!) would normally be an instant buy for me but Scott McDaniel’s art looks sooo dated now. I’d really like to see DC break up the McDaniel – Owens team and bring in a new inker for Great 10.

I thought they got killed in 52.
Anyway Id rather read about Japanese heroes than a Chinese group that will probably spend most of their time torturing tibetans and rounding up Uighurs…

I really hope it’s not too late for them to boot McDaniel from the book. After he eviscerated the multiverse in Countdown: Arena, I’ll never buy a book with his “art.”
Bedard and the Great 10 deserve far better.

Too little, too late. Too bad Rucka couldn’t come back to it and continue with some of the threads from Checkmate. Might have thought about purchasing this with him on board. DC seems to constantly drop the ball on these follow up projects, as if they just forgot the event was goign on and might be successful enough to warrant a follow up, resulting in year+ waits for any continuiation/aftermath.

As much i wish this was by Rucka/Trautmann, I’ve been loving Bedard’s work on REBELS enough to give this a shot. It still seems like the sort of thing i’ll trade-wait for, though, and in turn seems like the sort of thing that DC will needlessly split one story into two separate trades yet again.
