Leave it to Japan to one-up the World of Warcraft-freakout kid.

Anime News Network reports that police near Kobe have arrested a 29-year-old factory worker suspected of burning down his own home ... because his mother got rid of his "valuable" Gundam models.

Authorities say the man doused his room, and himself, with kerosene Sunday afternoon and, with a lighter, sparked the fire that engulfed his two-story house.

“My precious Gundam plamo were all thrown out by my mother," Sankaku Complex quotes the man as saying. "I thought I’d die, too.”

The man and his 55-year-old mother both escaped unharmed.

August 10, 2009, Yoshifumi Takabe, a factory worker from Japan, almost burned himself to death at his mother's home near Kobe in an effort to bring attention to the repressive policies of his mother's regime, which controlled the disposal of his Gundam collection earlier. Factory worker Takabe asked the regime to lift its ban on maintaining valuable Gundam models, to grant Gundam modeling the same rights as needlework, and dinner-making, to stop detaining his internet usage, and to give factory workers the right to model Gundam.

[sigh]
It astounds me that people have such poor impulse control. Sure, when I'm angry I think about breaking something. But then I remember that things *cost money* and I'll only end up upsetting myself further for paying to replace the broken item. Or I'll upset myself if I burn down my house in a bit of rage. But I suppose I shouldn't expect these things of people. Who am I to expect them to think rationally?

Um, that little picture is from the original Mobile Suit Gundam, not Mobile Suit Gundam 00.

Also, crazy man.

The little picture is a Zaku not a Gundam. I feel like burning down this site.
