Peter Parker on ‘The Mutant Problem’

The Mutant Problem

The Mutant Problem

I really dig this mock-up of a New York Times piece by Peter Parker, talking about the Marvel Universe’s “mutant problem” in general and his fan-fiction friendship with former New Mutant Doug Ramsey in particular. Click on the photos to the right to see Peter’s thoughts on each of the mutants he took pictures of for his “assignment.”

Nice stuff. Sort of like a slicker version of this old gem:

Wow.

That is an extraordinary amount of work for what is, in essence, fanfic. Kudos to the Times for running it. But i gotta ask, why? What is the Times hoping to accomplish through this?

And anyone who invokes the name of Doug Ramsey is aces in my book.

That was brilliant. Really loved it.

And great seeing some New Mutants pop up in there.

Wow… that’s very impressive! I did something a lot less elaborate back when the final episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired, and wrote a news article about the earthquake that destroyed Sunnydale (maintaining the muggle perspective throughout) — but mine was just text. No newspaper layout, no photos, no pull-out profiles.

Author of this Peter Parker piece: I salute you!

Interesting. Quite impressive.

Only two critiques:
One, the Times would either have coded “Next” buttons to toggle forward through the pictures and text, or offered a “read complete article” option.
Two, even in 2015, the New York Times would still not print obscenities.

Nice to see they’re still printing a paper edition in 2015.

The author is the ever-so-brilliant xenokattz:

Agreed, referencing Doug Ramsey wins major brownie points from me too!
