Entertainment has a first-look deal with Disney, gives his seal of approval to The Walt Disney Company’s $4-billion acquisition of Marvel Entertainment: “I think it’s the best thing for the two companies. The synchronicity is perfect. Disney makes great movies, but you need a subject to make the movies out of. Marvel has a library of [more than 5,000] characters. Certainly half of them would make great movies. These are colorful characters that are unique and have different backgrounds and you now have them available in your library. I’d be curious to see if Disney dusts off the CrossGen characters as well since they bought up the company’s assets when they went belly-up in ’04.

That’s exactly what I’m wondering as well. From what I can tell, Disney already owns 3-4 comic book companies or the properties of those companies, but they can’t seem to get a foothold in the US market. What are the chances of reviving the CrossGen properties, or even the Malibu ones?

Reboot the Crossgen books, jettison the asinine sigil nonsense, and go from there. Hell, half of the talent from Crossgen migrated to Marvel anyway. I’d love to see more Negation and Scion, frankly. Crossgen offered really great, beautifully-illustrated multiple-genre storytelling that was hampered by having ties to all the other books (and by professional ass-hat Mark Alessi’s management style, of course). Marvel could use more diversity in their line and it could be found in the Crossgen stories.
