Hello, new Batgirl; good-bye, creepy fetish mask

As DC Comics’ blog reveals Phil Noto’s full cover for November’s Batgirl #4, series artist Lee Garbett posts his designs for Stephanie Brown’s new costume — one that’s more Barbara Gordon than Cassandra Cain, with Spoiler-purple and ’90s-style leg pouches tossed in for good measure.

Thankfully, the sensory-deprivation mask was among the elements discarded for the new look.

What’s the problem with Cassie’s mask – never bothered a certain webslinger much…

I don’t get the hate for Cassie’s mask, either. It fit her character. She was a very unique and cool take on the Batgirl concept, and the first half of her ongoing series were some of the best comics DC was publishing at the time.

With that said, I like the looks of this new Batgirl costume, as well, as it also makes sense for Stephanie Brown and her character. I’m glad to see they aren’t just keeping her in Cassie’s duds.

Seriously, what’s wrong with putting a teenage girl in a black leather gimp mask?

I never viewed it as a gimp mask. It looks nothing like the Comedian or others that wore gimp masks. It was stitched up and I thought it reflected her faceless personality and inability to speak early on in her time as Batgirl.

Don’t like the purple highlights down the sides – reminds me of how (the female) Dr. Light has been drawn lately – too busy for my tastes.

It’s okay except for the leg pouches. Way too 90′s Liefeld for my taste…

To speak geek for a second, Cassandra inherited that covered mouth mask from the Huntress who wore that Batgirl costume during the whole “No Mans Land” thing, just sayin. So a redesign is about due anyway.

@Mark, ‘too busy’?? O.o Um, this is a pretty minimal design….

BTW, don’t know anything about new series artist Lee, but I like it!!! :D

@mgs, not too busy, but I figured since the costume was changing hands again character wise, I thought they’d change everything else as well.
