Next up on the DCU DVD sked: Crisis on Two Earths
One thing I didn’t mention in my review of Superman/Batman Public Enemies yesterday was that it came with a preview for the next DC DVD, Crisis on Two Earths. The story is the old evil superheroes from alternate earth versus our guys and seems heavily inspired by this book, as well as lots of old Pre-Crisis Silver Age tales. James Woods, Billy Baldwin and Chris Noth are among the celebrity voices. You can learn more from the video below, which I ganked from Topless Robot.

I saw somewhere that the Detroit League is supposed to appear in the film, so yeah, I bet it is.

Maybe you can leave the review of this one for someone who doesn’t have complete disdain for animated superhero films.

I’m hoping this one will be good, but I keep saying that about these DCUA movies and while I like parts of some of them I have yet to find one I really love. This one has the potential, but I am seriously bummed that Conroy, Daly (or Newbern, I’m good with either one) and Clancy Brown won’t be back for this one. I feel like WB needs to sign those guys to long term deals to be Bats, Supes and Lex in any animated film they do with those characters. Bring Carl Lumbly back as Martian Manhunter too!
Hell, just bring back the cast of the Justice League TV show for a series of animated films in that show’s continuity. I wasn’t thrilled with JLU’s anti-climactic ending, and I’d like to see it followed up on.
@Joseph: I didn’t read Chris’ review of Public Enemies yet, but I take he didn’t like it? So what? I didn’t think it was a very good comic when Jeph Loeb wrote it (he seemed to begin losing it when he was writing S/B), so I’m hardly shocked if it’s not a good movie. A great voice cast can only take it so far. If the story sucks, you’ve got nothing.
I know there will be a truly great DCUA movie at some point. I just don’t think they’ve had one yet. Wonder Woman had its moments, and parts (but only parts) of Gotham Knight were brilliant. I can leave the rest though. I was really disappointed with the GL movie, I’m sorry to say. Maybe they’ll do a take on the Sinestro Corps War someday (the movie hinted at it), but I doubt that would match the quality of the books.

Btw, this video actually comes from MTV’s comics and comic book movie Splash Page (which I’m the editor for):

You can also read a breakdown of what was on the full “Crisis on Two Earths” featurette (this was just a preview) here – including plot points, which characters appear in it, etc:

Sorry, don’t mean to spam links, but that Topless Robot post is a mess, and I wanted to point people to where they could get more info (and less bizarre snark) on the project. Apparently, TR thinks it’s being produced by MTV or something (or at least their readers do), and they only gave a breakdown of what was on the preview, not the actual featurette it was taken from. Weird.
So, there’s where you can get more info!
