where is wonder woman and superman?

Superman is on New Krypton, and Wonder Woman could be on the team, but the idea I guess is to represent the trinity legacy style with Mon-El, Dick Grayson, and Donna Troy. Setting up these three as a team could have some potential in the future. WW will probably show up as a guest.

Where is zatanna and black canary?

Zatanna is guest appearing, and I think Black Canary on the JLA already got screwed over big time, so they better take a break with that idea.

Why are we being punished with this crapola lineup?

Because it’s an entertaining crapola line-up.

I thought the Meltzer era books was more defined by the Lightning Saga, which for me was like old-style JLA – JSA team-ups. Heck, it reminded me of the JLA – JSA – Legion Team up when they fought Mordru and the Demons Three ^_^

As far as the new line-up goes … I’m not happy about it to be honest. I like using Donna, Dick, and Lar as the Trinity for this group (least happy about Lar – can’t one of the Shazam family pitch in instead?) but I am also unhappy about the third-stringers (Congorilla and Guardian) hanging around and I wish they had a few “updated” characters (Ryan Choi instead of Ray Palmer, Connor Hawke instead of Ollie Queen) in the mix as well. I know it’s a transition group, but that doesn’t make it any better than, say, the Superman – Maxima – Fire – Ice – Beetle – Booster – Guy – Bloodwynd lineup.

It’s time to get back to one to three issue stories. Maybe then we could see the team in action a few times instead of getting one adventure before the line-up changes.

The Meltzer era was indeed terribly slow – I can’t even remember what happened in it, other than the big three sitting around for issues looking at photos, and Reddy moaning a lot. Surely there was some great villain conflict I’m forgetting . . . as for the book showing Roy was ready for the League, the Titans were an adult team, it made no sense to choose one over another. And why the heck would he change his name and limit his MO? Is Roy an Alex Ross fan.

My big problem with the new team is all those Titans. Bad enough having characters from an existing team transfer to another (eg Geo Force, Black Lightning, Red Arrow) when we could be seeing someone who’s never worked in a team dynamic previously, but four of them?

Just as a side note….this Mon-El isn’t from the future. He’s the present day Mon-El….but that said, he does have to go back to the Phantom Zone at some point, but that could be anytime in the next 1000 years, right?

I’m happy to see you mention the 80-page giant. I thought that book was a great romp (with a couple of bumps). Is there no chance Mon-El will take lead on the team? Or Donna? I have the feeling Dick is going to paly the same role here Bats did in the Morrisson books – tactical, always with a plan. “I know your secret.”

Fun column. I await your thougts on the future of the Legion, and what Adventure may hold for them next year.

I find it hard to get excited anymore over JLA. The last several incarnations have been really underwhelming and Cry for Justice by the same writer isn’t impressive. I might skip this altogether and do something else with my money.

Yeah, I could see Dick-as-Nightwing sticking around, and likewise there’s nothing necessarily pushing Donna out the door. However, Mon-El has to go back to the future at some point, right?

I just had a thought- maybe having Dick & Mon-El & Donna on the team as stand-ins for the Big 3 could last beyond the inevitable return of their former mentors. That would certainly free the book from the kind of continuity interference that hamstrung the McDuffie run. Of course Dick will need another ID by that time…

@comicspal: with all due respect, we’re not going to agree about Meltzer. I did like some things about his issues, but ultimately I thought they moved too slowly.

@Jeff: it’s certainly possible that Ronnie might be back after Blackest Night, but I was thinking Jason because Robinson seemed to be talking about Jason.

Still, it’s funny you should mention Ronnie. I was originally going to talk about who might be in the Titans team after all the graduations, and I figured Blackest Night would bring back some formerly-dead characters like Tempest and the original Hawk. I then realized that making all those dead Titans eligible again would be too much research for this post!

You keep talking about Firestorm as if it will still be Jason Rusch. There is plenty of hope that Ronnie Raymond will become Firestorm once again. I certainly hope that happens.

Though I would like to see both Black Lightning and Geo-Force rejoin the League.

I think you’re wrong about the Meltzer era. I found his 12 issue run to be better than anything else Ive seen on JLA since Morrison left. A wonderful focus on characterization – why Roy was ready for JLA, why Red Tornado is so valued. The issue in which Red Arrow and Vixen find themselves stuck under a building was great. As was the Red Arrow-Hawkgirl relationship.

And also, Meltzer is the only one who writes fights as if they have real consequences – people get hurt. This isn’t supposed to be cartoony. I wish they’d bring Meltzer back, in fact; nothing Ive read in JLA since has approached his level of attention to plot and character. To me, he’s been on a great streak: Identity Crisis, JLA and Last Will and Testament. Would like to read more
