Vertigo announced on their blog yesterday that they’ve more than doubled the length of the upcoming Joe the Barbarian mini-series by Grant Morrison and Sean Murphy. What was originally going to be a three issue series will now run eight issues. You can also check out some additional preview pages by clicking on the link above.

Morrison has described the comic as “Home Alone meets Lord of the Rings,” with the titular character entering a dream state in which his toys come to life. It begins in January.

Great news. This looks absolutely amazing.

Wow, that page looks nice. I’m really looking forward to this one all of a sudden.

Eight solid months of Murphy art? Cannot wait.

Well, good to see people are happy here. Personally not sure how I would feel about a move like this, if it were a series I were reading. If it meant that the cost of getting a complete story (and I don’t know the particulars in this case; just engaging in a hypothetical) went up by %166, I might feel like the victim of a bait and switch, even if an unintentional one.

But if everyone reading Joe the Barbarian is happy, awesome.

It hasn’t actually started yet, Wraith, and I don’t think it’s even been solicited yet … so no one’s out any money at this point.

Quite true. Even so, with the quality of the art much higher than so much stuff out there at the moment, i’m totally fine with paying a bit more, if that is indeed the case.

Well that would tend to pre-empt just about any cause for complaint, seemingly. Excellent for one and all.
