Interesting reviews...I have the DC 2000 2 parter and the Virtue and Vice books....and I agreethe JLA/JSA team up were always special..until the lightning saga that is. That is proof that even 2 great writers can have an off story,,,,And I am a major Legionnaires fan saying that....

..and yes The Spectre totally kicked booty in DC 2000...I can just imagine what people from the 1940's would say about the world today....well today 9 years ago that is...

>> Actually, re-reading the 1984 "Commander" two-parter, I got the feeling that writer Kurt Busiek was auditioning the Champion family for a possible future storyline. Not sure they ever appeared anyplace else, though; not even in The Power Company.>>

I was, and they didn't.

I wanted to do a family-adventure SF series called THE CHAMPIONS OF TERRA, but that crossover didn't go over well enough to interest anyone at DC, and since then I've come up with better places to use the ideas I had for their adventures. One of them -- The Gordian Knot -- got used in the ASTRA two-parter in ASTRO CITY.

I dug that 1977 crossover, I think that's what introduced me to the Legion. But my favorite was the near-convoluted Crisis On Earth Prime in 1982, also including the All-Star Squadron. I didn't know a lot about the Cuban Missile Crisis at that time, nor did I realize the history of Per Degaton and the Golden Age heroes, but I found it very entertaining. Good Stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

1. I also loved DC 2000. Peyer is missed, and Semeiks should have been given a monthly berth instead of being the guy who did JLA specials.

2. The 1980 event was the story that introduced me to the JSA and to the New Gods. It didn't introduce me to George Perez, but it was the first place that I got to see what made him so great. It epitomizes what DC could be to me then and now.

Great article, Tom. It's always nice to see that someone else enjoyed DC 2000, since it's been pretty much ignored by most fans.
