My best friend is currently an undergrad in the sequential art program at SCAD. She wanted to boost her skills up so that we can begin shopping around as a writer/artist duo. Although she never told me that they teach her to write her own stuff. That is great news. The girl has no many ideas, but needs to focus on storytelling and concise plot.

I'll have to ask her more about this.

It should probably be noted that the founding Savannah version (http://seqalab.com/?p=539) goes on at the same time and is a larger draw (larger department, founding area, etc). They also have the same Editor's Day in both places.

Tony B. - Certain aspects are usually open to the public. They do a gallery show at the same time (in ATL or SAV, or both). In SAV they always do an open-to-the-public panel/lecture, sometimes more than one. I would imagine that's the same for ATL. The workshops and individual lectures are students-only though. They do a similar public gallery/panel deal for most big name events they do. If you live in either area you should see about getting on a mail list and at least checking out the free monthly gallery hop.

Great article. Was this open to the public or just students? I really enjoy visiting SCAD Atlanta when they have some public presentations. I live a few blocks down the street and went there a year ago to see Art Spiegelman once, another time to see James Jean, Andrew Robinson, and some other very impressive artists. This year they had a great display of Don Bluth's work. I hadn't heard of this symposium so I'm guessing that it may only have been open to students. The couple times I've gone, I've had an incredible time. Sean Murphy is a great artist. I remember his Batman/ Scarecrow mini-series fondly.
