While I certainly appreciate that certain titles more or less have a legacy that's decades or even a year or two old, I don't think it makes much sense to limit a creator's boundaries based solely on what someone has done with the title or even just the name of the title in the past. Good stories should be able to go anywhere. I suppose as a reader I would be confused if World's Finest was suddenly starring characters from the Wildstorm universe, but that doesn't mean that a good writer couldn't take that name and use characters who aren't related to Superman and Batman.

Squashua: well, in my hair-splitting defense, Showcase '9X wasn't a regular series, but a series of 12-issue miniseries. For those who don't remember, there were four of 'em -- '93 through '96 -- and generally their hook was that at least one story in each issue featured either a Superman or Batman character. There were general-interest DC-character stories too, of course.

I liked the idea, although I didn't buy every issue (and I think I skipped Showcase '94 entirely), but I'd probably put it closer in format to Action Comics Weekly than LOTDCU.

Again, probably a lot of hair-splitting going on, so thanks for reminding me. :-)
