I find him to be the ‘cartoonish’ equivalent of Isaac Asimov, and that is intended to be high praise. Isaac wrote paperbacks on nonfiction subjects for the ‘layman’ to understand the details of physics & such. Larry, I have most of your books, and I have relished every minute of reading them!!!!

I’ve had the first two volumes since the early ’90s and they’re fantastic. I really need to get the rest. Gonick’s work is both informative and entertaining.

He should do a book about teenage vampires. That’s the kind of thing people want to read about. This stuff sounds like home work or something.

Just wanted to add that this series (specifically , the original volume) is one of the key reasons why I’m both a (pseudo) historian and cartoonist today.

I’m about a quarter of the way through the new volume, and it’s just as awesome as the rest of the series. I was lucky enough to start reading this when the first comics started coming out, when I was 12 or so. I’ve learned so much from Mr. Gonick. His writing and cartooning are top-notch, as well. The Cartoon History is one of the most entertaining reads ever.

What a treat to get to read an interview with him!

This is truly one of the greatest works ever published, comics or history wise. Yes, I’ll go on the record with that statement, as someone who is an avid reader of both. I do wish there were more comics coming out, or that the more well-documented (i.e., recent) episodes of history got a bit more page time, but there’s no denying that what Gonick has gone is a total masterpiece, and I hope plenty of folks will check out the Cartoon History series in years to come.

Good interview… man. What a work. Mr. Golnick has been toiling on this awesome work since the year I was born. (And it isn’t like I still get carded at the bar, nowadays.)

I think these are going to earn a place of honor on “must-own” lists, including mine.
