Andy Clarke joins Batman and Robin for ‘Batman vs. Robin’

Andy Clarke will follow Cameron Stewart as the artist on Batman and Robin, joining writer Grant Morrison with March’s Issue 10 for a story arc called “Batman vs. Robin.”

Clarke, who began his career at 2000 AD, most recently drew issues of DC Comics’ Batman Confidential and R.E.B.E.L.S.

In addition to Stewart, Frank Quitely and Philip Tan have illustrated arcs of Batman and Robin. At one point Frazer Irving was set for Issues 10-12, which initially were to be drawn by a returning Quitely.

Comics Alliance has a brief Q&A with Clarke and Batman Group Editor Michael Marts.

“As far as teasers go, the title of the storyarc — ‘Batman vs. Robin’ — might be the biggest teaser of all,” Marts says. “And expect to learn quite a bit more about the mysterious history of Bruce Wayne’s family tree.”

I still hope that we get to see Frazer Irving on the book. Hopefully after Clarke, then with Quitely returning to finish the book off by the end of “Return”.

Brilliant artwork, bummed he’s off REBELS.

The art itself is alright, but the poses are ridiculously akward. I just want to know when Quietly will be back. It has to be soon after Clarke, he’s not THAT slow is he?

Damn. I want him to stay on R.E.B.E.L.S.

On. Off. On. Off.

Damn you, DC…

On the other hand… Yay! I love his artwork, so B&R will be better for it…

BOOOOOOOOOOOO! I want Irving and Quitely. I don’t know who this guy is and I don’t care. This reeks of the mess the Phillip Tan left us with. I’m sure it will be better than that last arc, but only because it can’t be worse. Oh well, at least we’ll have Cam for 3 issues.

Are you saying “boo” or “Boo-urns”?

I was saying “boo-urns”…

Kevin, don’t be silly. It’s fine to root for Irving and Quitely — I wish they were both faster, too, and I REALLY wanna see Irving’s take on these characters — but do compare the new guy (whom you admit you know nothing about) to Tan? Yikes. I’ve picked up two issues of R.E.B.E.L.S. (the first ish and the “BN” tie-in) and his art is very strong. It’ll look great. (In fact, I was planning on making R.E.B.E.L.S. the one new series I started picking up, of all those tie-in issues. I’ll have to see who replaces Clarke if he’s leaving that title for good.)

Maybe I’m just being paranoid, but hopefully there actually is someone replacing Clarke on REBELS, rather than it getting cancelled…

The solicitations for the December-February issues of R.E.B.E.L.S. list Claude St. Aubin and Scott Hanna on art. That said, with the exception of the November blip created by the power-ring incentive, sales for the title have been pretty grim.

It was only a matter of time before Clarke got a “high-profile” project. While I’ll miss him on R.E.B.E.L.S., I’m happy for him.

“boo-urns.” I literally cheered.

It’s doubtful that Frazier Irving will be drawing anything in this book anymore considering what he’s gonna be doing in the OGN Batman: Earth One.

as much as I hate to lose the guy off REBELS, St. Aubin has filled in capably in the past.

on another note, just what the heck is the spelling of this guy’s name? I swear every time I see it, it flip-flops between Clarke and Clark…

@Joe H

Whaaaa? Pretty sure that’s Gary Frank on “earth one”. Where’d you hear that?

Scroll down a little. Before the character designs, they say that Geoff Johns and Gary Frank will be the creative team behind the “Batman: Earth One” graphic novel.

I know the question wasn’t adressed to me, but I hope it helps = )

Irving is on the return of Bruce Wayne. Frank is on Year One. And IMO Quitely is likely to do an arc, probably the “Big Return” arc of Batman and Robin. He will just need a year and a half as it will probably be six issues and be 40 pages.

My big hope would be that Tim Sale gets to do the Noir Bruce Wayne arc. Joe Kubert would be awesome for the caveman arc.

St. aubin is fine, still it’s a darn shame to loose clarke after so few issues on R.E.B.E.L.S.
Hope it doesn’t kill the already struggling title to loose the “promising new artist.”

He should have taken the alias “Frank Slowly” or “Frank Lee Unreliable”.

Robin is made of rubber lol
