Is Matt Fraction the next writer on Thor?

Thor: Ages of Thunder

Thor: Ages of Thunder

Buried in that interview at ICv2.com with Marvel Publisher Dan Buckley may just be the name of the permanent writer for Thor.

Discussing the company’s new, “less line-wide” approach to crossovers, Buckley says: “I’ve read what Fraction wants to do with Thor and it’s really cool stuff by itself.”

Matt Fraction, who rose to prominence at Marvel with The Immortal Iron Fist, Uncanny X-Men and The Invincible Iron Man, in 2008 penned four well-received Thor one-shots that helped to fill the voids left by delays in the J. Michael Straczynski-written monthly series.

When Straczynski hinted in May that he might be leaving the title because of the crossover that became Siege, Fraction’s was the name mentioned first and most frequently by fans as a fitting replacement.

The six-issue arc by Kieron Gillen and Billy Tan continues through Thor #610, which presumably mean’s Fraction’s tenure would begin in May 2010 — following the conclusion of Siege.

I certainly hope so.

He will be, and I’m not happy about it. I’ve only ever enjoyed his Iron Fist run and his pre-BND Spider-Man annual. His Thor work thus far has been the antithesis of what makes me enjoy the character.

I think this is a good move. Basically puts Fraction, Bendis and Bru in charge of the Avengers. I assume he would leave Uncanny as well? If that’s the case then I think Kyle and Yost are taking over that title since they are leaving X-Force.
I also guess that this is when JRJr’s run on Thor starts? Fraction/JRJr, not a bad team.

I would be happy with both. I like Gillen, and Fraction… so if either of them write it, as long as it is good I will continue to buy it.

Yeah, heaven forbid Marvel look further than the same five or six guys who’ve been writing almost everything in recent years. Plus ça change, plus c’est la meme chose…

Hmm, Fraction mentioned awhile ago that the Thor one-shots were basically him scratching his Thor itch and he was done with it after that. So maybe Buckley could just be referring to Fraction’s plans for Thor within his Iron Man run or something.

But I’m really hoping that he does move onto Thor, and preferably off Iron Man because his run has become slightly mediocre lately and Fred Van Lente’s IM will be more than enough. But yeah, Fraction’s Thor is something you’d imagine Jason Aaron or Garth Ennis to be writing, and that’s pretty awesome.

Damn I hope so. After Ages of Thunder, I would give anything for him to be on Thor long term.

“Marvel Comics – IRON MAN/THOR FCBD 2010 EDITION
Two of Marvel’s heaviest hitters like you’ve never seen them before! A major new direction for the Marvel Universe kicks off HERE – on Free Comic Book Day!”

So I guess that will double-confirm this. Fraction will obviously be writing that.

….Not necessarily.

Though I agree that it is LIKELY that that will be what happens, there is such a concept as more than one writer on a book…
