Marvel says it’s time to save the world in April 2010
Marvel posted the above teaser image on their website earlier today without any text except the headline: “It’s Time To Save The World — A sneak peek at April, 2010.”
So what could this image be referring to? Well, you may recall we’ve seen a very similar image of Galactus recently, in the promo images for Jonathan Hickman and Dustin Weaver’s upcoming Shield series. So maybe this means we’ll be seeing the solicitation for it from Marvel soon.

I can’t tell if that’s a silver (adamantium?) skull or a crystal skull.
Either way, cool image.

Well, I see what looks to be an adamantium covered skull — let me guess, Wolverine drew shortest straw for the “Who’s Turn Is It To Die & Come Back In A Year” pool? Yawn.
Infinity Gems? More yawns.
Galactus? Even MORE yawns. Eat the Earth already. 40+ years of threatening to do so. C’mon. Feed.

Yep, a pretty cool image. I’m really looking forward to a hopefully brighter Marvel Universe this year. I’m ready for Norman Osborn to go down and some Good Guys to win. I would love to see SHIELD come back too.

I’ve loved Hickman’s work in Marvel so far (as well as the work I’ve seen from him through Image) so I’m totally on board for this if this promo is for that Shield series.

But FIRST, shouldn’t Marvel “save the cheerleader”?!?
Then, “save the world”?!?

Is that the Silver Surfer’s skull?
For my money intergalactic storylines = yawns.

Maybe it’s a silver skull? Then it would be the Silver Surfer who needs to be worried, that seems more likely to go with a picture of Galactus and Infinity gems then Wolverine.

when i first saw the skull i thought ghost rider but the thing is too shiny which either could be the silver surfer winds up falling in battle or its wolverine skull . but thinking if Galactus is involved in some way has to be the silver surfer as for the infinity gems i though the iluminatie hid them . have to read the series to find out now.

My first thought was Silver Surfer, upon looking at the skull.

Really? Must not have read Annihilation, Nova, Green Lantern, or GotG.

Actually, I didn’t think the Surfer had a skeleton. My assumption was that he was solid energy. Less like “Captain Atom” and more like” ZZZax” in a body armor.
Image is cool though. But will the story be as well???

I think this has more to do with Marvel’s “1602″ line of books. The old parchment and wooden table just give it that feel to me.

It is for Hickman’s Shield miniseries. I know parts of the story take place around the Renaissance era (hence the da Vinci-esque drawing) and is about some of the great thinkers in Earth’s history trying to stop Galactus. It’s going to be amazing.

I’m more curious about the table. Who’s table is it? Is it used to plot evil schemes? Or is the table usually used to eat dinner? Also the table appears to be made out of wood illegally cut from the rainforest of the Savage Land, which clearly must be where the Illumanati hid the Infinity Gems. Some one is obviously attempting to give Galatus extra power by giving him extra legs and arms. Anyway that was my first impression of the

MikeLikes is definitely correct about 1602. Just look at the type at the bottom. It uses the same as the series logo. It’s a solid teaser image.

So this is the Hickman “SHIELD” series, featuring people like Leonardo da Vinci as historical SHIELD agents?
Cool…
Could the skull also be some kind of reference to the central motif of HYDRA’s emblem?

I got the first Secret Warriors Hardcover after hearing about the concept of this series and how it will tie all together. Haven’t been a follower of the big two for a couple of years, but this has my attention and I just may have to not wait for the trade on this.
The Divinci Galactus has my intrest, can’t wait for the unseen Marvel Universe unfold.

It’s for Hickman’s SHIELD. It comes out in April, the promo has an April date stamp.
Marvel is solidly behind this. I don’t think they would be doing a teaser for another 1602 mini

I’ve liked all of Hickman’s work, from Image & Marvel. This looks awesome.

I certainly hope they use the Infinity gems in an intelligent way. Yes, that means we hope you did your homework and went back and read Thanos Quest 1 & 2. I’m talking to you Bendis and Hickman…

The only Hickman stuff I’ve read is his Marvel stuff, and it’s been good. I’ll certainly try out the Shield book. I’m not a fan of cosmic books at all. I do wonder if that skull is adamantium, and if it is a result of some Da Vinci alchemy.

The Adamantium Skull- if that is what it is- may be a reference to a similar skull from X-Men: The Jungle Adventure, where one was found in a cave in the Savage Land.

I thought that the shield series continues in the vein of the Marvels Project mini series and the illuminati where it shows the secret history of marvel icons. Isn’t it about the eternal battle between Shield (Before it was modernised into S.H.I.E.L.D.) and Hydra and probably tying in to the newer developments revealed in Secret Warriors.
It’s more like a SHIELD Origins series.

Who cares about the image of the skull. It is time to save the world. Literally.
