Send Us Your Shelf Porn!

Is it a bird? A plane? No, it’s Shelf Porn, defender of truth justice and awesome-looking bookshelves everywhere.
Today’s entry, in fact, comes all the way from Sydney, Australia, courtesy of Superman fan Steve Younis, who, appropriately enough, runs the Superman Homepage Web site. It’s quite the extensive array of Kal-El-related material, so I’ll bypass the usual blah-de-blah and get right to Steve and his collection:

I began seriously collecting in the mid-1990s, with many of the items purchased online (as I live in Australia). The room is first and foremost my office space. It’s from here that I run and maintain the SupermanHomepage.com web site, and is also where my weekly “Speeding Bulletin” news videos are filmed.

Some of my prized possessions in my collection include a swatch from a George Reeves Superman cape, a Randy Bowen “Seinfeld” Superman statue, an issue of “Superman #12″ from 1941, and the George Award presented to me at the Metropolis, Illinois Superman Celebration in 2008.

The collection contains everything from posters, action figures, figurines and statues, T-shirts, magnets, watches, books, comics, DVDs, CDs, cassettes, records, games, jewelry, clocks, calendars, trading cards, standees, mugs and glasses, cookie jars, blankets, bed covers, boxer shorts, etc…

Steve has been doing an amazing job with the Superman Homepage since well before I started reading around 2000. I’ve seen parts of the room in the Speeding Bulletin, but its tremendous to see Steve’s collection get its due here!

Wow! that’s quite a collection. But I have to ask one question: Did even he quit watching Smallville somewhere along the way? Because I only see 5 season box sets of it on that shelf?

@ Genius Jones
Most likely yes, yes he did.
Haha!

Cool room, and I especially love the JLA poster on this wall (where’d he get that?), but I don’t think any self-respecting Superman fan should have anything from that Stuporman Redux movie adorning his walls. Find some nice art from a really good Supes comic artist, or maybe Superman: TAS, instead.

I assume Shaun’s comment about “Stuporman Redux” is a reference to “Superman Returns.” I know a lot of people will have trouble believing this, but there are those of us who really love that film. I’ve seen it more times than “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” combined.

Great collection!
@Steely Dan: I’m in the middle of the debate on Superman Returns. Singer was just way too faithful to Donner’s vision. If that movie had come out 10 years earlier I’m sure it would have been a classic but comicbook readers expect a different type of movie nowadays.

Smallville Season 6 is indeed on his shelf, right atop Superman/Doomsday.

Amazing collection! I particularly like the Alex Ross Clark Kent lamp shade! Where the hell do you get something like that?! Very impressive.

Thanks for the kind comments.
The Alex Ross spinner was given to me by my local comic shop. It was a display item they were given to promote “Superman Forever”.
I still watch “Smallville” and have all 8 seasons on DVD (the photo was taken before Season 8 was added to the shelf).
The JLA poster is actually a Wall Scroll that was available a few years ago. You may still be able to find it online. The posters get rotated and changed every few months to keep things fresh. I have many rolled up (in the corner of the room under the Alex Ross spinner) waiting to be displayed.

Superman Returns is (IMO) acceptable. Smallville is something that no self-respecting Superman fan should have anywhere. But as much as I dis-like Smallville, I understand its place in the mythos. Steve has a great collection BTW and the Superman Homepage is a great place to visit.
