Allred vs. Cooke in the battle of the I, Zombie covers

Via Vertigo’s PR blog come the regular and variant covers for the upcoming I, Zombie by Chris Roberson and Mike Allred. You’d think a rad Mike Allred cover would be enough:

I, Zombie #1

I, Zombie #1

but then they have to go and get Darwyn Cooke to do the variant cover:

I, Zombie variant

I, Zombie variant

I kinda want both. As for the series, Vertigo’s Pamela Mullins shares some more details on what it is about:

Told from a female zombie’s perspective, the new monthly comic book series, I, ZOMBIE is a smart, witty detective series with a mix of urban fantasy and romantic dramedy. Gwendolyn “Gwen” Dylan is a 20-something gravedigger in an eco-friendly cemetery. Once a month she must eat a human brain to keep from losing her memories, but in the process she becomes consumed with the thoughts and personality of the dead person until she eats the next one. She sets out to fulfill the dead person’s last request, solve a crime, or right a wrong.

Our zombie girl detective is joined by a radical supporting cast: her best friend Eleanor who happens to be a swinging 60s ghost; a posse of vampires who play paintball; a smitten weredog, and a sexy but demented mummy.

Yikes, those are some great covers!

I absolutely love them both!

Really dig both, but Cooke’s cover grabs me just a bit more.

When is this series supposed to hit shops?

I believe May … so we should see it in the next round of solicitations.

I really like Darwyne Cookes cover a lot more. It seems to capture a lot more mood to it. Personally, I’m looking forward to the next of the Parker series of books of his from IDW.
