Spider-Man, Wolverine join the Big Three on Avengers #1′s cover
Behold John Romita Jr.’s cover for Avengers #1, coming at you courtesy of IGN. (I spotted it via a tweet by Brian Michael Bendis himself.) Note the presence of Spider-Man and Wolverine, members of the New Avengers who nonetheless did not appear in Marvel’s recent series of teasers for the new adjectiveless Avengers line-up. Note also the presence of Iron Man, Thor, and Bucky Barnes as Captain America, who did get teasers. Ponder the absence of Hawkeye and Spider-Woman, who also got teasers. Keep in mind that Bendis tweeted “no, that is not the entire team.” Factor in Secret Avengers writer Ed Brubaker’s tweet that there are more Secret Avengers than those featured in that team’s mysterious teasers, too. Wonder just how many more Avengers surprises are in store.

I really wanted to see Steve Rogers fighting alongside Iron Man and Thor on a regular basis.

I have always like JRJR’s art, but this just doesn’t seem up to par for me.

Love the fact Spidey’s being dragged by the web connected to Thor’s hammer.

Yeah, I like JrJr, but that’s a bit too blocky and sketchy, even for him.

Love JRJR too, but I have to agree, in this piece they all seem crowded together. And Wolverine’s body seems off against Cap’s, his claw isseveral inches in front of Cap but his body is behind him.
Still, can’t wait to see the full lineup.
Bucky is not Captain America

These guys posing as Avengers don’t fool me one bit.

this clearly isn’t the final cover. the image depth is totally weird and look at the outlines around the figures. someone’s been compositing this on photoshop…

Missing Hulk, any member of the Fantastic Four, Punisher, Ghost Rider, and “Martian Manhunter Avengers member” (Hawkeye / Ant-Man / Wasp / Vision / Scarlet Witch) to hit all the popularity buttons.

With Bendis running the show . plently more including maybe a certain missing green Android . and wonder man. returning and of course maybe a certain dethroned king and his queen giving the avengers another xmen who has not been with any other team till marriage.

I swear I would boycott any of the Avengers books if Deadpool was in their ranks. He is SO overused.

Luke Cage should be Captain America.
Draft Luke Cage in 2012.
Love the art.

I’d like to see Jean Grey and Ororo in the Avengers, but Bendis would just have them brutalized every month.

Spider-Man is only White when he takes his suit off. He’s Black when his suit is on.

I’m sort of bummed. The promos for this made me think the “New Avengers” days were over, but with Spidey and Wolverine on the team its like more of the same. Especially Wolverine, for some reason that just irks the hell out of me.
A team of 5 would have been nice to see as well, with more character development amongst the big three, although I guess 7 is the unofficial standard line up.
My ideal Avengers team would be:
Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision
Also, I love JRJR, but this cover looks weak. Hope the interior is better. Overall, Secret Avengers is looking like the more interesting book.
