Williams on Batwoman: ‘I don’t know if that’s going to happen’

iFanboy.com has posted a video of footage from the Emerald City Comicon, where they spoke to several creators at the show about what they were working on. Around the 4:00 mark they talk to artist J.H. Williams III and ask him if the Batwoman title that was mentioned as being in the works last year will still happen.

“I don’t know. We were hoping for that,” Williams said. “I don’t know if that’s going to happen.” The artist, who worked with Greg Rucka on an amazing Batwoman run for Detective Comics, did say he was working on a short story for the upcoming DC Legacies title featuring the Seven Soldiers and another upcoming issue of Jonah Hex.

You can watch the entire video below, which also features interviews with Brian Michael Bendis, Jeff Lemire, Jim Rugg and Peter Tomasi.

Confusion between DC Editorial and Creative?

YOU LIE!

I’m sorry.

WHAT?

For what it’s worth, the new solicits for June said that Batwoman’s going to be back in Detective Comics in July (after a few months of Batman fill-ins). I don’t know whether that’s in lieu of the Batwoman series, or if it will be Rucka/Williams still, or what.

Let’s see

DC rearranges their enitre corporate structure led by a WB bigwig and suddenly – surprise – the one comic with a gay lead suddenly “isn’t going to happen.”

Gee, I wonder why.

It seemed odd that Rucka’s been so quiet about his baby lately. Now we know why.

Congratulations DC on being such predictable homophobic corporate cowards.

@Steve: I kind of doubt the return arc will involve Williams. It took him so long just to do those seven issues I simply don’t see how he could have more material ready to go in the short time since his last issue of Detective. I don’t mean that as a slight or negatively, just me being realistic about it.

On the bright side, though, the complainers can stop whining about how removing Batwoman from Detective and giving her her own solo is disrespectful to the character now.

… So of course there’s going to be another line of complaints in it’s place!

It never ends.

This news breaks my heart.

Come on, DC! Get it together while some of us still care!

Pretty strange, considering Ian Sattler teased the Batwoman ongoing at the very same convention.
