As a part of their 75th anniversary, DC Comics has recruited several artists to recreate covers from classic comics, which will be used as variant covers for several of their books this year.

Yesterday they revealed another one, this time by Joker artist Lee Bermejo, who draws the cover to the last chapter of my favorite Legion story, “The Great Darkness Saga.” You can find the original cover after the jump.

That has got to be my favorite Bermejo cover of all time. I’ve never been a huge fan of his work but he really knocked it out of the park with this homage.

Man, Superboy has the best view.

I always thought the Great Darkness Saga needed more buttcheeks.

Original cover by Keith Giffen and Larry Mahlstead.

I’m with you guys: all I’m seeing are buttocks.

Yup.. it’s all about the butt, though it’s odd that Dream Girl, the shocking new leader of the LoSH and a legionnaire known for her sex appeal, is left off the new cover, when she is there in the original. Also the two largest figures on the cover are Superboy and Darkseid as if Superboy is really more important than the other heroes. I also find it ironic that Element Lad is right up in the front in the new picture worshiping Darksied as a god since DC decided to turn Jann into a mad god (like Darkseid) in the later incarnations (during Legion Lost).

At least we know that if you ever have any quarters that need bouncing or walnuts that need cracking, the Legion is the superhero team for you.

Scary cover.

Darkseid looks amazing. Shame that the buttocks were the second thing I noticed about the shot tho.
