Straight for the art | The art of wounded pro-Palestinian activist Emily Henochowicz

Sheikh Jarrah Swings by Emily Henochowicz

The pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement activist group reports and the Baltimore Sun confirms that 21-year-old Jewish-American art student Emily Henochowicz was badly wounded Monday during a Jerusalem protest against Israel’s deadly raid on a relief flotilla headed for Gaza over the weekend. Hit directly in the face by a tear-gas canister fired by an Israeli border policeman, Henochowicz lost her left eye and required substantial surgery to repair damage to the bones of her face and skull.

What makes the nature of her injuries sadder still, hopefully regardless of your thoughts on the underlying conflict, is that Henochowicz is clearly a talented visual artist and animator. You can visit her blog and Flickr page for everything from life-drawing sketches to visual chronicles of her experiences in Israel and the Occupied Territories.

Protest? Try attempted terrorist attack.

umm, seriously dude?

Hank, you fail, please educate yourself.
Thanks for posting this Sean!

Another example of Israeli dickery, but why do Americans keep making this garbage in the Middle East their problem?

another unaffiliated, secular jew whose parents did her a disservice by not providing her with a jewish education.

and has happened throughout history, without a true grounding in herself, she searches out those who will show her love…and comes upon the terrorist front group. the ism….who are only so happy to throw internationals into harms way.

way to waste a talent

Walt: The ISM, a terrorist front? Please. Your last name fits you… hurrm…

Wow, these comments are disgusting!! This event is horrible and should be taken for what it is, an act of horror by armed forces against humanity. For your kind information Walt, she went to Israel as an exchange student, and ONLY decided to get involved after witnessing the true state of atrocity. Might be hard for you to understand, but I guess as a true artist she had a wider view point, regardless of her background or faith.

While this was happening the head of the belligerent Israeli state was on his way to a state visit to Washington, DC, to be awarded a further $200 million in aid on top of the $3 billion of American taxpayer money the US gives away to him every year.

If you are not upset by this, your mind is weak, man. Weak.

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.
