Scott Pilgrim on the iPad

Just in time for his big-screen debut, all six volumes of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim are now available for purchase digitally via a new application on the iPhone and iPad.

The app is free, along with the first 37 pages of the first volume and the Free Comic Book Day comic that’s set between volumes 3 and 4. The first five volumes can be downloaded for $6.99 each, while the sixth and last one costs $11.99. Created by Comixology, the app hits on the same day that the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World video game arrives on the PlayStation Network and, of course, just a few days before Scott Pilgrim vs. the World arrives in theaters.

Update: I’ve added the official press release after the jump … also, if you’re in the UK, Scott Pilgrim is published by Fourth Estate over there, and they’ve got their own iPhone app for it: http://www.scottpilgrimtheapp.com/.

ACCLAIMED SCOTT PILGRIM GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES NOW AVAILABLE ON APP STORE
Oni Press Partners with comiXology to bring Scott Pilgrim comics to the iPad, iPhone and iPod in Advance of the Series’ Big Screen Premiere — with access to purchased volumes via the web

08.10.2010 – /New York, NY/ Bryan Lee O’Malley and Oni Press, creator and publishers of the best-selling Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series, and comiXology, creators of the leading digital comic book platform, today announced that the Scott Pilgrim App is available on the App Store. The app is available just days before the big screen premiere of feature film, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

The Scott Pilgrim App gives users all-inclusive digital access to the adventures of Scott Pilgrim, where they can witness Scott’s battles against the league of evil exes to win the heart of Ramona Flowers, the girl of his dreams, through the app powered by comiXology‘s popular digital comic platform. Scott Pilgrim launches with two free chapters and all six volumes of the critically-acclaimed graphic novel series by creator Bryan Lee O’Malley. The first five volumes are available for $6.99 each, and the final 200 page volume is $11.99. Once readers purchase volumes through the Scott Pilgrim App, they will also have access to their titles through Comics by comiXology web and mobile apps.

Each digital volume, featuring comiXology‘s patent-pending Guided View™ Technology, will also include the bonus content included in each of the print volumes, allowing for a seamless print-to-digital experience. For diehard fans, the Scott Pilgrim App will also include Bryan Lee O’Malley’s full color Free Comic Book Day issue, FREE SCOTT PILGRIM.

“Bryan has done something amazing with Scott Pilgrim. The series has gone from an indie comic sensation to a New York Times Bestseller.” said Joe Nozemack, Oni Press founder and Publisher. “This is truly a story for everyone and because comiXology has done such amazing work with exposing the ‘non-comic reading world’ to classic characters, we knew they would be the best at bringing Scott Pilgrim to the digital mainstream.”

According to comiXology CEO, David Steinberger, “With Scott Pilgrim, Oni has created a comic book that fits perfectly into mainstream media. It’s a series that genuinely unites pop culture with comic book and gaming culture. For comiXology, creating a Scott Pilgrim app enforces our goal to bring comics to everyone, everywhere—new and seasoned fans alike.”

With the launch of the Scott Pilgrim App, fans can now catch up on Scott Pilgrim’s battle to defeat Ramona Flower’s seven evil ex-boyfriends just before heading to theaters for the release of Universal Studios’ major motion picture adaptation, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD directed by Edgar Wright. All volumes of the Scott Pilgrim saga will be available through the app, starting with SCOTT PILGRIM’S PRECIOUS LITTLE LIFE, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD, SCOTT PILGRIM & THE INFINITE SADNESS, SCOTT PILGRIM GETS IT TOGETHER, SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE UNIVERSE and the recently released series finale, SCOTT PILGRIM’S FINEST HOUR.

The Scott Pilgrim App is available for free from iTunes App Store on the iPad, iPhone and iPod now.

That picture of Scott naked in bed creeps me out. Does anyone know where that is from (and who the girl is?)?

If this doesn’t cause an explosion in Ipod comic sales, nothing will.

Chudley, that is a cropped desktop wallpaper that was (and still is?) available from O’Malley’s website. The two bigger figures are Scott and Ramona, with the supporting cast as babies on either side.

Wallpaper!

I have all 6 books in OGN form, yet still downloaded this app and all 6 digital books (plus the FCBD issue) as soon as I saw it was available… finally, portable Scott Pilgrim action!!!

Now if only someone would get Usagi going in a comics app…

Just checked out the free vol1 preview as a total noob who never read the books. It’s phenomenal and visual bliss on my iPad. I will be buying all 6 with great haste.

‘not available in the UK’

Brrrrrrrrilliant :(

JamesB — Scott Pilgrim’s British publisher has released it for the iPhone as well:

No UK (Or in my case Australian) iPad version yet. I have the iPhone one, but would prefer the larger scale.
