Milligan and McKeever’s The Extremist resurrected at Vertigo

vr-2-extremist

Following last month’s announcement that they’re planning to release older material under the “Vertigo Resurrected” banner, DC’s Vertigo imprint announced today that Peter Milligan and Ted McKeever’s 1993 miniseries The Extremist will return to print in November. Unlike the first Vertigo Resurrected title — Warren Ellis and Phil Jimenez’s “Shoot” that was originally intended to be published as Hellblazer #141The Extremist was published, but I don’t think it has ever been collected in trade paperback form.

According to the Graphic Content blog, the book is about “three ordinary people who succumb to the allure of a mask and a costume and all the power that comes with it, creating a shocking and controversial exploration of the nature of freedom and sexuality.” Greg Burgas at Comics Should Be Good! has a great overview of the series here.

So exciting. I really hope that they get to the Egypt series he did as well.

This is a great book. I was actually wondering recently if digital distribution would allow comics like this to return, but am happy that Vertigo has committed to Milligan in print again over the last year or so.

I second the vote for Egypt, as well as some other Milligan one-shots like Face and Eaters.

A great era at Vertigo. I’d love to pick this up. And, yes, I’d pick up Egypt, too, and a lot of stuff from this Vertigo in era if it were collected.

add Girl with Duncan Fegredo, Vertigo Pop!: London with Philip Bond, and The Minx with Sean Phillips to the MIlligan reprint list.

Seriously? After I spent 10 years tracking down the final two issues only to finally get them about three months ago? Fuck you, Vertigo.

Something tells me they’re going to eventually collect Finals in this format since its never been put in trade.

Great mini!

Great news, and please reprint Enigma, which has been tough to find a sane price for some time now.

Oh, god yes! All excellent stuff.

At this point, too, if not print, why not digital?
