Send Us Your Shelf Porn!

Welcome to Shelf Porn, our weekly peep into somebody’s comic collection. This week Shawn Borbandy shares a huge number of pictures of his collection of comics, toys, statues and more. Also, I’m trying out a different layout for Shelf Porn this week, so let me know what you think.

If you’d like to share your collection, hit me up! Email pictures and a write-up to jkparkin@yahoo.com. Also, if you’re decorating for the holidays and using any sort of comic book theme on your tree or around the house, we want to see those, too! So take some photos of your ornaments and send them to me as well.

And now let’s hear from Shawn …

*****

Hi there. My name is Shawn Borbandy. This is my shelf porn. My wife and I bought a new house six months ago, with one of the goals being getting a bigger den than the one we had for my stuff. The room was a bit bigger, but we noticed the front closet took alot of the space you could have away. So my wife suggested we reverse the closet into the den. You’ll notice,in the pictures with the longbox shelves, is the closet turned back into the den. Sweet idea from a sweet wife! Anyways, there’s not much in this room that a person can’t find in any store, save some original sketches from some conventions. But I think it’s all about having a space where you can put all this stuff out and enjoy it everyday. I know my daughter loves it and she’s only just turned one! By the way, best pieces I own are the 19 inch Galactus figure, and the plush Krypto! Won him in Six Flags over Arlington. Had to check him as luggage on the flight back to Canada!

Personally I think is better to have all the pictures full size on the page, so you can scroll down and look at them all.

Otherwise it could get tedious or tired to click the pictures one by one, I did, but I was certainly tempted not to.

Definitely prefer the previous layout. Hope this is helpful.

Yeah, I prefer the old way too. This way the thumbnails are too small, you have to click on each picture to get a good view, and you can’t enlarge from there either. I like being able to read the titles etc on the books.

Otherwise, a very nice collection Shawn!

That is helpful … thanks!

Sorry about the picture sizes. I sent the whole file, instead of them individually.

I prefer the old style too. I’m also envious of that long box closet – it almost looks like a giant card catalog.

Count me in as another reader who prefers the old layout. It’s just more convenient. I’m not really inclined to click on each thumbnail.

Nice room and collection(s).

Your daughter will have a great time with all of those toys as she gets a bit older !

Another vote for the old way please. Its a real chore to keep clicking and then going back.

I prefer the old way, I like to view larger images w/o having to click on them.

NIce collection and a great room set up

I opened every picture in another tab to scroll through them. I don’t care if its old way or new way, as long as I can see detail.

I would put a lock on the door, or move everything to higher shelves soon, for fear that the collection will be destroyed via baby.

Those Marvel crate statues are insane. I only saw one (Cyclops) once, at a K-Mart of all places. Great and underrated line. Never seen them all at once. Impressive collection.

I much prefer the old way. Thumbnails are way too small. Kudos for trying something new though.

The first thing I did was replace the door handles. She can go in there supervised until she’s at least 40.

Very nice collection and well laid out as well.

I would also like to chip in and say that the old format was better…thanks for the effort of trying something new though!

I’ve been an avid follower of this column. First time to comment here, just to say that I prefer the old style.

hi there, just wanted to say great room… i’m feel bad for you that the new change in format was implemented for your room, and that so many comments are focused on that.

you’ve got a great room, and a great family!

Where’s the next entry? Come on guys, get those pics and write-ups in! We want to see more of the domains of our geek overlords! I should get my shit together and get a (rather more humble) post in.

Love this feature so much.
