Which member of the Fantastic Four will die? Place your bets!

Fantastic Four #587

As most of us know by now, January’s Fantastic Four #587 will mark the death of a member of Marvel’s First Family. But which one will it be? Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch or The Thing?

Well, if odds-makers are to be believed, Sue Richards probably should get her affairs in order.

BetUS.com, which bills itself as “the world’s leading online sportsbook and entertainment website,” has released odds for which of the Fantastic Four will die in January. And, according to the site’s analysts, even money is on Invisible Woman, with 1/1 odds. She’s followed by brother Johnny Storm at 4/1, husband Reed Richards at 6/1, and loyal friend Benjamin Grimm at 100/1.

Fantastic Four #587, by Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting, will arrive polybagged in stores on Jan. 26.

Benjy died just a couple years ago and Reed a little bit before that, so they do seem like the two most unlikely. I’d lay odds on Susy too.

My money is on Human Torch.

i would go for sue for one it would really shake up the dynamic of the team not to mention would Marvel dare risk another woman in refrigerator moment. though the torch also has never been killed. so it could turn out to be him. but odds are Marvel wants the ff fans to have a omg moment to talk about . so would not be surprised if they dare kill sue.

My money’s on Johnny. He’s the only member of the Four who haven’t had some sort of “Death of…” story told about him in the history of the title (Millar did a “Death of the Invisible Woman” story in his run, although it was an alternate universe Sue that kicked the bucket). Pair that with the firey “4″ on the cover of the Amazing Spider-Man tie-in issue (which I’m almost 100% sure is symbolic), it just seems logical.

I don’t think he’ll stay dead long though.

I go with Johnny too…with the emphasis on Golden Age characters, isn’t it easier to have just one Human Torch in the Marvel Universe?

I’d wager it’s not actually Sue, if only because one of the blocks on the FF teaser isn’t filled with white.

(But, then again, I keep thinking that what if the “shock” is that there are four different versions of the book, each with one of the team dying?)

Story wise Sue makes no sense as her daughter returned from the future telling her to be strong during the upcoming difficulty.

Johnny make sense thematically with Reed and Ben being longshots.

I think Sue, Johnny and Reed will die. 3 will die. 3 will live: Ben and the kids.

Let me be the first to publically guess that they’re not actually going to kill One member, but THREE members.
Who will survive?
Okay, so if I’m not the first, so be be it, but I just haven’t seen that theory kicked around anywhere.

Now THAT would be a SHAKEUP!

I vote for Johnny, as I don’t recall him being killed before….

(those of you concerned with continuity—why does it matter? of course, whomever it may be will be resurrected within 2 years….)

Captain America and Batman ARE still dead, aren’t they?

Yeah, absolutely: three members are going to die, not survive. The survivor? Mister Fantastic, who will become a darker, more haunted character as a result.

I’m guessing that it’s Johnny for not other reason than I have long been of the impression that he’s the least popular member of the FF.

I agree with Prowler. The lone survivor will be Mr. Fantastic, and he will be totally shattered by it. Should be interesting

This will be the end of the Invisible Girl. Susan Storm will be disposed of permanently.

Hmmmm…. I kind of like the Death of 3 theory. But you’d probably wanna tie it into the warning to Sue to stay strong. Thus Sue would be the sole survivor. That would certainly (well, relatively speaking) be unexpected.

My money is on Reed Richards dying. He has set up the Future Foundation as his legacy, which I think will be the focus of the new FF series. I’m guessing after the death of Reed, Johnny will step up and take responsibility, with perhaps Alex Power coming onboard as the new team scientist.

My money is on Reed

Hickman spoke in interviews before his run that he was concerned that the book was less about the four of them and more about just Reed

Also if they killed Jonny noone would care, considering Reed’s death would effect the family, the council of Reeds and the Future Foundation it makes for a bigger story

also, on the subject of crazy interpretations of ’3′ maybe one of the kids will die and leave three members in the Richards family

Some dark thoughts there Dacl.

I’m guessing that the will bring back the She Hulk and just kill her instead.

By the way. The real question is not who’s going to die, but who will be absent for about 12 issues.

It’ll be the Human Torch because if the Thing dies, instead of the FF being like a family, they will be A family

I think 3 will die! Hence the number “3″ they keep soliciting. Ben will live since he is on “fear itself” ads!

This is event storyteling at it’s worse.

Totally think it will be the Human Torch. How can they kill off the 1 woman in the group of 3 men / 1 woman ? It would be so wrong if they killed Ben… and The Fantastic 3 wouldn’t be fantastic without Mr Fantastic.
