Saturday Shelf Porn!

Welcome once again to Shelf Porn, our weekly look at someone’s shelves … and this week you get a second dose, as we move the feature to its new home on Saturday! Today’s collection comes from newlyweds Scott and Jessica Greenfield, who share their really awesome Hobby Room/Nerd Shrine of action figures, graphic novels, posters and more.

If you’d like to share your collection with the world, please email a write-up and pictures to jkparkin@yahoo.com.

Hello. My name is Jessica Greenfield. My husband Scott and I got married almost four months ago, and since then we have been working on what he calls The Hobby Room (and what I refer to in my head as The Nerd Shrine). It’s where we keep our trades, collected editions, action figures, statues/busts, posters, etc. Give us a couple of months of DCBS deliveries and this room will look completely different, but we just got it looking nice and we wanted to share with our fellow shelf porn devotees. Thanks for looking!

We have our trades/collected editions filed alphabetically by publisher. We’ve got Archaia, Avatar, Boom!, Dark Horse, etc., on this bookcase, but it really belongs to DC. I’m a DC girl at heart, so this is my favorite bookcase. It was my husband’s idea to put the Cover Girls of the DCU statues in each cubby, and I love it.

We call the top shelf The Strangest Superhero Team That Never Was: Fin Fang Foom, the Spectre, my preferred Spider-Woman Julia Carpenter, Devil Dinosaur and Moon-Boy, Polaris, Tigra, and Maleficent (from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty). Daredevil, as my husband says, is not a team guy, so he doesn’t count.

I like this picture because it shows the DC Archives series (R.I.P.) and the Green Arrow mini bust.

My apologies for the poor photo quality. This is my husband’s favorite shelf. He loves oversized books. I initially typed that he has an oversized fetish, but that just sounds wrong. We’ve got our Absolutes, EC Archives, the lovely Wednesday Comics, the SIP Omnibus, and some European comics up here.

This bookcase has Image, IDW, and other publishers too, but it’s really the Marvel bookcase. I like the winking She-Hulk hanging out with Love and Rockets, and I love the Bowen She-Hulk punching the Cylon (to the right of Zot!).

More Marvel. I’m a big Cap fan, and how can you not love an acrobatic French villain with a twirly mustache, so there’s Batroc the Leaper with some Inhumans.

This is probably the worst picture I took. I apologize. We’ve got Marvel Masterworks, some omnibi, some pop-up books, and Marvel Premiere Classics. That’s Hellcat in front of the Premiere Classics.

This is a long shot of the Marvel bookcase. It’s next to the oversized spillover and our action figure shelves.

My husband has a few of his prized issues on the top shelf. Some of his smaller Legos are in here. I don’t know why, but I like the Sinestro/Black Cat team-up happening on the top shelf.

This is definitely my side of the shelf display: 10 New Teen Titans action figures up top, ladies of the JLI (minus Fire), lots of Black Canary, and Buttercup from the Powerpuff Girls.

Another shot of my budding Black Canary shrine. There’s a Thrillkiller Batgirl action figure hanging out in here somewhere, but she is in need of some superglue repair.

Darth Vader is in the cockpit, daring you to try to open the boxes next to him.

Beast Boy (just to the right of the Star Trek tin) welcomes you to The Nerd Shrine.

More action figures. Please note the “Do not disturb – Video Pro at work” sign hanging near the bottom of the door. That’s my husband’s, and I still think it’s my favorite thing in the whole room.

This is our oversized spillover, the rest of the publishers after Marvel, and my husband’s “to-read” pile. Check out Sweetums working as a bookend. We’ve got some of the Krazy & Ignatz volumes, Lost Girls, the complete Calvin & Hobbes, the complete Yellow Kid, and a few other things in the oversized section.

Here’s a better shot of the oversized shelf and Scott’s to-read pile. I don’t do the “to-read pile” thing. Pretty much whatever is in the room that I haven’t read is my to-read pile. There’s the aforementioned Thrillkiller Batgirl. …And two random razor blades.

We keep a Bat signal in the window, just in case. Catwoman Black and White hangs out next to the Bat signal. She is much, much tinier than I expected her to be.

Another shot of the New Teen Titans, plus Big Barda for good measure.

Posters. I have a 6′ tall Vampirella poster on order, and I have no idea where it will go.

Ms. Marvel hangs on the front of the door. She is my favorite character, but now that I think about it, she might get replaced by that Vampirella poster.

My husband’s 300 wall clock. I refuse to make a “THIS! IS! SPARTA!” joke.

Now we move to the living room. I had a LOT of busts and statues when I moved in, and we just couldn’t fit them all in the Hobby Room/Nerd Shrine. Anna Mercury hangs out next to our BSG series set.

Sideshow Ms. Marvel. Her sash is fabric with a wire in it, and I obsessed over shaping it for at least 45 minutes.

More Ms. Marvel, including some Mini-Mates. Also some Captain Marvel (the ’70s version statue was a birthday present from my husband, God love him) and Miracleman.

Tony Stark loves backgammon.

Cloak and Dagger hang out on one side of our TV…

…while the Dazzlers rock out on the other.

Finally, here are our Women of the DCU busts lined up above our TV on a DVD rack. Eventually this will just be a bust rack. …Ahem.

So, that is our shelf porn. We hope you enjoyed seeing some of our geekery. We definitely enjoyed showing it off. Thanks for letting us share!

Nice stuff, love when a couple shares such an awesome hobby.

Looks great!

It looks like you’re using the same white shelving units from Home Depot that I have, but I’ve been paranoid about stacking them – how stable are they? Did you do something to fasten them together? Am I wrong about the providence of the shelves?

Quite impressive

Nice display but really, really bad photos; blurry quality.

impressive display. one of the few times i have seen Miss Marvel stuff all in one place. plus love Sweetums guarding the must read pile.

Thanks for all the nice comments!

Mark Cook – They are bookcases from Target that have pegs that lock them together. They are pretty darn stable.

very nice collection. The images could use some work though. Maybe you can re-submit once that Vampirella poster arrives.

There is an obscene amount of high ticket items in that room. Jeez.

I’ve been a retailer for four years. Your collection is the first to make me jealous. The complete cover girls of the DCU Statues (I only have Canary and Zatanna, with armored WW on order) and the Black Canary figures especially. Also good to see someone else who decked out for the biiiiig single volume SiP collection.

One thing to keep an eye out for as a Canary collector: The Birds of Prey set. All good figures and has the practical body armor version of Dinah. Pretty darn swag and would fill out your Canary shelf well.

*sigh*

*jealous*

I want a room like this when I get married.

Love your room. Your commentary rocked too! Thanks for sharing.

Whenever I see a great collection like this I always ask myself…How do they afford it???? Clearly, I am in the wrong line of work!!! Seriously though, very impressive and nicely displayed.

Very cool.

one word… AMAZING!!!

If you’re a big Ms. Marvel fan, look for the “insanity of Miracole Burns” on Facebook. She is a professional cosplayer and has an amazing Ms. Marvel costume….
