In brightest day, in blackest night … in a wrestling ring do Lanterns unite?!

Comics and wrestling are no stranger to one another, but a recent promotion by WWE shows just how deep comics run inside America’s premiere wrestling company. Today on WWE.com, the company posted a feature called “WWE Lanterns: Superstar Spectrum”.  This unprecedented cross-over is something unique.

“”Everyone, especially the WWE universe, is going green these days with the blockbuster film reelease of “Green Lantern”, based on DC Comics’ iconic power ring slinging character,” says WWE.com. “But Green Lantern isn’t alone int he galaxy; Featuring different emotions that fuel their individual abilities, there are nine distinctly hued Lantern Corps in comics lore.”

It goes on to classify some of WWE’s top wrestlers superstars in the nine branches of the color-coded Lantern Corps. The most popular Green Lantern Corps of the WWE is comprised of top star John Cena along with the Miz, Big Show, Kofi Kingson, Beth Phoenix and Hornswoggle. Take your time to click through all the links to see where each character ends up; pay specific attention to the Black Lanterns, lead by the Undertaker but also featuring hilarious black-eyed superstars surrounding him.

No sign of former WWE superstar Shane “Hurricane” Helms on the chart, despite him having a Green Lantern tattoo.

Alberto Del Rio as the Orange Lantern, with his ring announcer as a construct, is pretty inspired.

Couldn’t help but notice you called them “wrestler’s.” Don’t you know WWE is no longer a wrestling company?
:)

You might get a phone call from WWE’s PR department for the error.

The sadness, this gives me it…

Everytime I see ‘WWF’ It still spells out World WRESTLING Federation. I’m not a wrestling fan but if on television and that subject came up I’d say that name as many times as was permited just to see what the legal ramifications would be. I assume the Panda Bears wrestle in the WWF.

I saw Rey Mysterio Jr. get lawndarted into a trailer on live television once. I was having a really bad summer, so that much of been fun. Can’t quite remember it’s been so long.

It wasn’t on the world WRESTLING federation show, that’s for sure.

Boy, all you guys here are killjoys. I loved this! The guy who put this together spent more time than just throwing a bunch of random wrestlers together.

The Miz, for example. You’d think he’d end up in either the Red Lanterns or Sinestro Corps just because he’s a heel, but nope. They saw a similarity to Guy Gardner, put him in the Green Lantern Corps, and ran with it. Fantastic!

Also loving Zack Ryder as the lone make Star Sapphire (that guy seriously has one of the most fun wrestling-related twitter accounts), Morrison on the Indigo Tribe, and the entirety of the Red Lanterns. Mark Henry, R-Truth, Sheamus, and Randy Orton should seriously be on a real stable. And OF COURSE Sheamus is on the Red Lanterns.
