Oh, the cuteness! Amy Mebberson draws Strawberry Shortcake

Ape Entertainment announced it would be doing a Strawberry Shortcake comic at NYCC last year, and it looks like the first issues will debut this summer. The team working on the comic includes writers Georgia Ball, former Tokyopop editor Tim Beedle, and Russell and Meredith Lissau, and the artists are Tanya Roberts and Amy Mebberson. Mebberson was last seen illustrating Roger Langridge’s Muppets comics for BOOM! Studios, and it’s nice to see her back at work again. Here’s a sample, and there’s more at Ape’s preview page.

FYI, since the end of THE MUPPET SHOW Amy also did several covers for DARKWING DUCK, IDW’s Dr. WHO, and collaborated with James Silvani on a back-up story for RICHIE RICH #2. In addition to STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE she’s currently working on an as-yet unannounced project for us at APE ENTERTAINMENT.

That’s all sorts of cute.

My daughter loves Strawberry Shortcake. She doesn’t believe me when I tell her it was around when I was a kid. She thinks that that means they should all be as old as me if that’s the case.

Strawberry Shortcake comics! What a wonderful treat for comics-reading girls . . . there are already kids’ comics out there that girls like, of course, but we could always use more titles that are made specifically with young girls in mind. Especially when they look as great as this!
