DC Comics reveals collection plans for first arcs of the New 52

DC Comics Presents #6

DC Comics announced 51 upcoming trade paperbacks and hardcovers yesterday, as they plan to start rolling out collected editions of their New 52 relaunch titles next year. They’ll publish 7-8 of them each month from May to November.

Yep, they only list 51 trade paperbacks — Wonder Woman is missing. And it looks like the DC Universe Presents trade will collect both the Deadman story that wraps in issue #5 and the Dan DiDio/Jerry Ordway Challengers of the Unknown tale that starts in issue #6.

Coming out first as hardcovers are the first New 52 story arcs for Justice League, Batman, Green Lantern, Detective Comics, Batwoman, Batman and Robin, Batgirl, Action Comics, Batman: The Dark Knight, Green Lantern Corps, Aquaman, Green Lantern: New Guardians, Flash and Superman. DC’s choices for the hardcover treatment line up almost perfectly with their top-selling titles for September; Teen Titans outsold Batwoman and Aquaman, but will go straight to trade paperback.

Check out the complete list after the jump.

I wonder if the ones scheduled farther out are under suspicion of delays? e.g. Manapul’s Flash or maybe Chiang on WW being the reason it’s not listed at all. If there’s anything to that, I guess it’s proof the Batwoman was in the can before issue #1 saw print.

TP pricing seems like a good value. I’m assuming that there’s a misprint and Blue Beetle is either a HC or the price is listed wrong, because otherwise trades are priced at $2-$2.50 per issue.

Freaking ridiculous how long it takes. So if I want to by Flash or All-Star Western I gotta wait almost a whole year? Come on.

Aquaman is getting the HC treatment? Seems like an odd choice.

Looks like my single issues will sell easily on Ebay. This is why I trade-wait Marvel and buy DC comics when they come out.

“Universe.” DC Universe Presents. Just to clarify.

I can understand why they spread the collections out the way they did, but by the time the last wave of collections comes out in November, the New 52 titles will be hitting their 14th issues (those that survive). Won’t those be overdue for their second collections by then? And what about the miniseries that are coming out right now? Are those collections being completely delayed until next December?

I think DC is kind of forcing itself out of the TP business. One year wait for some titles is absolutely ridiculous. They are trying to force people move into digital before long.

I wish DC’s trades would be better. I liked the idea of Justice League International, but thought that I could wait until trade, well, at least that one will be in the first wave of trades, but gosh, by then I’ll have forgotten about it. Going digital might be my best option and I hate taking business away from local stores, especially when its not the stores fault for having to wait so long.

Thanks Wesley. It has been fixed.

Say what you want about marvel but they get the trades out quickly, some of the waits are far too long, are the books being pushed at the end titles on the bubble? Or are they going to be beset by delays? Seems very odd. Surely they want our money as soon as possible rather than at a point when the new 52 excitement as long since passed.

Speaking of trades, is DC ever going to collect the Doc Savage First Wave series? We got First Wave itself, and a few Spirit books, but nothing else. WTH?

I think DC believes that the delay protects retailers. It makes people buy singles rather than trade-wait. Some of Marvel’s tTPs were coming out within weeks after a storyline ended and readers were buying that off Amazon instead of in floppies from the LCS. But a year seems too long. Maybe a three to six month delay would have the same effect?

Both DC and Marvel are completely incompetent about their trade programs. DC waits for an eternity to release anything while Marvel’s starting to make it so you blink, and all of a sudden the book is out of print.

‘Teen Titans’ outsells ‘Batwoman’? Huh.

Those are some great trade prices $18 and $21 normally – now only $15. To bad it will take so long to come out.

Its a shame Marvel cant do the same. Their trades are normally even dearer than their $4 single comics.
