C2E2 attendance hit 41,000 in 2012

The third outing for the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, or C2E2, proved to be the best yet for the show, as attendance came in at more than 41,000 total people, according to ReedPop’s Global Group Vice President Lance Fensterman. That’s compared to the 34,000 people who attended in 2011, which was up from the 27,500 who attended in 2010.

Fensterman had previously told CBR that this year they were focused on growth for the show. “Really it was about delivering the full package — the guests, the exhibitors and the fans. It’s kind of like each year we got one or two right. And that’s expected. You launch something, and you learn as you go about what fans in the new market want. So this year, the goal is ‘Let’s nail all three. Let’s get the show floor. Let’s get the crowds. Let’s get the guests.’ This year, it was really about the event coming into its own.”

Is that total 3-Day Weekend Pass and Single Pass or Turnstile attendance (One person times each day)?

If it’s turnstile, a person with a 3-Day Weekend Pass is counted thrice and actual attendance would hover at 13,600.

How does ReedPop count PAXEast and other cons?

How many of the total attendance people include press and trade?

There was no turnstile, so I would guess they were going with the passes they sold. I have been at C2E2 all three years. This year was the first time that the aisles were so clogged that I could barely walk (on Saturday), and it’s not that the aisles are narrow—the venue is quite roomy. I’m told that the hall it was in was bigger than last year, and it was quite crowded all three days.

They even made the aisles wider this year and it was still mad crowded. I’m happy to see this con grow!

That’s fantastic news. It definitely fits the feeling I got at the show and it’s nice to hear that confirmed.
