Matthew Southworth reveals title, cover art for next Stumptown volume

In February, Stumptown artist Matthew Southworth teased that he and writer Greg Rucka would return this summer with another installment of the Oni Press crime series. Now on his blog he’s revealed the title of the series, “The Case of the Baby in the Velvet Case,” as well as the cover art for the first issue, which should arrive in August.

Debuting in 2009, Stumptown follows Dex Parios, a Portland, Oregon, private investigator with a gambling problem who, in the first miniseries, accepted a job tracking down a casino owner’s granddaughter in exchange for settling her debt.

Hell yes! August is still too far away, dammit.

Great news!

If only Stumptown looked that awesome in real life!

Can’t wait!

Good news. First series wasn’t one of Rucka’s best efforts but was still worth a read & the art was gorgeous.

Good to see this is getting another mini series. But lets get to the real question. How long are the delays gonna be on this volume? I don’t want to buy issue one and wait 6 months for issue 2 or 3 or 4. I’m not going to get stooged a second time.

@Faust

I think the plan was for Rucka and Southworth to have the entire mini in the can before releasing the first issue, so if they carried through with that, there shouldn’t be any delays.

Because yeah, the delays, especialy for the last issue, were savage last time.

great.

I am a big fan of both Rucka and Southworth… they are a perfect match for this comic. The first volume was really entertaining: a great caper with great characters. I think one of the things that sets Rucka apart in the crime genre is that his characters are flawed and warm and knowable, which is nice to see in legit crime fiction and Southworth has such a talent for humanist, realist cartooning… he’s like the next Sean Philips or Michael Lark. Cheers.

Thanks everyone, for the interest and the really kind things you’ve said.

@Faust: the delays were killing all of us the last time, which is why it has taken so long for us to put together this next run. We’re banking all the issues before we put out any of them, so there will be NO delays. It’s a five-issue miniseries this time, and I’ve finished four of the five already. So you can COUNT ON IT!, the trains will run on time.

Please spread the word, tell retailers, friends, everyone–they can COUNT on it being on time this next time around, so please buy as it comes out. It’s a monster, you’re gonna love it–it’s my favorite thing of Greg’s that I’ve read, and it’s the best work I’ve ever done. I’m dying for you all to see it.

Matt

Thanks for update Matt! I was hoping you or Rucka would show up with some clarification on the schedule this time around!

Knowing thats its 80% completed before the first issue is solicited is good to hear. So I’ll be picking it up as it comes out! But if issue 5 is delayed? No 3rd chance buddy! ;)

Sign me up! I’ll be at Corner Comics the day it’s released. Southworth rocks, literally!
