Archie reveals trade collection of New Crusaders: Rise of the Heroes coming next April

New Crusaders

Archie Comics announced the return of their Red Circle superhero characters last fall as part of a digital subscription service that features new stories by writer Ian Flynn and artist Ben Bates alongside an archive of older Mighty Crusaders material. Then in April, they told Comic Book Resources that those new digital stories would be collected into print comics, and we found out last week those comics will debut next month at Comic-Con International in San Diego.

So we’ve got digital-first comics, followed by print comics … what comes next? Yep, trade-waiters rejoice, Archie shared with Robot 6 today that a trade paperback collection of New Crusaders: Rise of the Heroes is coming in April 2013. Here’s the solicitation text:

New Crusaders: Rise of the Heroes

Over a decade ago, The Mighty Crusaders did the impossible: they won. Successful in their battle against evil and finding they’d made the world a better place, the heroes founded the small town of Red Circle to start families, unwind and take a much-deserved rest. For all their kids (and some of their spouses!) know, these everyday people have spent their entire lives as accountants, teachers, lawyers and handymen–totally normal.

Until now.

When a vicious and deadly villain from their past returns, the heroes vanish, their families shattered, and only one of them remains standing: the Shield.

The Shield collects the remaining children of the lost Red Circle heroes and ushers them to safety in an underground bunker–the last remaining vestige of their parents’ past lives–to reveal the truth about their parents, the monster that took them, and their own unique super-powers. They are our last, best hope.

They are the NEW CRUSADERS.

Awesome. This looks like a bright, shiny, fun superhero comic that isn’t ashamed of being a superhero comic. Can’t wait to read it.

Thanks for the info, but wish it included substantial details — like page count and price!
