Slate Book Review, Center for Cartoon Studies establish comics prize

The Slate Book Review has partnered with the Center for Cartoon Studies to present the Cartoonist Studio Prize, a new award honoring excellence in cartooning.

Each March the $1,000 prize will be given to two creators, one for best graphic novel of the year and one for best webcomic of the year. Winners will be selected by Slate Book Review editor Dan Kois, the faculty and staff of the Center for Cartoon Studies, and a rotating guest judge. For the first year that will be New Yorker art editor and TOON Books publisher Françoise Mouly.

Submission forms can be found on the Center for Cartoon Studies website. Submissions are due Dec. 31; finalist will be announced Feb. 1, with the winners revealed March 1.
