Saturday Shelf Porn | Maximum Marvel mini busts

Welcome to Shelf Porn, our weekly look into the closets, cases and longboxes of comic fans around the world. Today’s collection belongs to Chad Holloway, who shares his vast collection of Marvel-themed mini busts.

If you have some shelves you’d like to show off, send me a write-up and some jpgs at jkparkin@yahoo.com.

And now let’s hear from Chad …

*****

My name is Chad Holloway and I’m a journalist from Wisconsin. I’m a long-time fan of Marvel comics; in fact, it’s the one childhood pastime I’ve carried with me throughout the years. One day about five years ago, I purchased a Mr. Sinister mini bust from my local comic shop—little did I know it’d lead to a space-consuming addiction. I just filled my second cabinet and am looking for a third. I’m a big fan of the X-Men and their foes, as you can clearly see.

That’s nice collection. Where’d you get that display case?

There are two cases. The one that opens on the sides (which is a pain to clean) I got from family, the other one (which opens from the front and is greta) I found on Craigslist for $100 from an older woman who was moving.

nice collection there espicaly love how they did the sential though bet it is a pain to dust all those things.

very nice

@Chad
Man, you sure are BUSTED!

Thanks for the compliments. Dusting them is a royal pain and I dread doing it. My collection has actually grown a little bit since these pictures were taken, but it won’t be complete until my favorite character, Avalanche, is released (hopefully arrives sometime this month).

I’d kill for those Alpha Flight busts!!!

Well, maybe not kill. But at least pay ridiculous prices…

Can you tell me the ISDN/ASIN code or any information on the Alpha Flight Guardian bust? Is it under Vindicator or Guardian? I still can’t find it anywhere…

@Neil Mikel LoMeli The male or female bust? They both were Guardian at one point in time. I assume you mean the female, and Bowen doesn’t actually make it (only one of two in my collection). It was made in 2006 and had a run of 2,500 (Here’s some info on it: http://toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=8&itemid=8385). I have seen it on eBay from time to time. I don’t stray from Bowen much, but I had to have it for the Alpha Flight set.

Chad, both. I didn’t even see Heather. LOL. Thanks for the information, do you have any on Mac?

The Vindicator Bowen bust was released back in 2005 and only 2,000 were made. He’s pretty rare. I bought mine a few years back on eBay for around $100. Here’s info on him: http://www.bowendesigns.com/product/vindicator_mini-bust.aspx

Nice dude!

I have Alpha Flight as well, no Heather or white Sasquatch but I do have a full size Wolvie anchoring the display.

I posted mine on shelf porn a few weeks back :’)

I never understood the appeal of busts. Great collection though.

I think one of the apeals of busts is their limited edition, for example Marina is limited to 1000 that means at best they’re 1000 full sets of Alpha Flight world wide and likely the number is much lower than that. You have to care a lot to pull that off.

A set like this is something special.

I also notice Chad has both versions of Puck!

I like the arms down (Maddox) version, it’s the one I have.

As far as Alpha Flight mini-busts that’s a pretty complete collection….but….No Talisman?!?

Just buggin’ ya ;’)

That’s awesome. I have a very similar Spider-Man mini bust set up as yours; unfortunately the rest of my collection resembles yours only in my dreams. How often do you dust them, and what do you use?

Now that’s a mini bust collection. well done.

@Joseph I dust them about once a month. I have a soft paintbrush I use on the busts, and the do the cabinet with windex and paper towel.

Great collection, very nicely displayed

Love seeing how others display their stuff. Nice work Chad. Thanks for sharing. Not often we get to see so many busts together in their groupings.

my god, how much do you think all of that cost you?

I want to see BOOKS in this section.

Wow! Looks like it cost you a pretty penny. How long did it take you to amass this impressive collection?

Never understood why they made a moleman statue. Otherwise awesome collection.

I’ve been collecting this since about 2006.
