See where artist Tyler Kirkham works and plays
Hello and welcome to Shelf Porn! Today we have a special treat, as Green Lantern: New Guardians artist Tyler Kirkham shares images of his office/drawing space, as well as his Skyrim-themed basement.
If you’d like to see your collection featured in Shelf Porn Saturday, send your submission to jkparkin@yahoo.com. Let’s make it happen in 2013!
And now check out Tyler’s stuff …

And below is Tyler’s basement, which is decorated to look like a house from the video game Skyrim. If you’ve ever played the game you’ll note the attention to detail is pretty amazing.
“This was mostly sweat equity from my wife and I, with my dad, who is a contractor,” he said. It features the game’s signature candles, Whiterun grain and of course a basketball game (like every jarl has in his castle).

This is just pure awesome. As for the fact that a DC artst has so many marvel posters and collectibles, it just goes to show that he’s a true fan of the medium, not one publisher over another.

If you didn’t know what Skyrim was, the minute you were taken into that room you’d think, “So this is how I’m goi g to die. Killed by my friend in his serial killer’s dungeon.”

I have never heard of that video game, but that basement is still nifty.

I met the guy once at a signing. We talked comics.
Think he’ll be doing Marvel stuff sometime in the future?

@Alex
Considering how often DC and Marvel share talent, it’s a pretty safe bet he’ll get to Marvel sooner or later. I mean, look at how often Mark Waid goes back and forth, or how Ed McGuiness started at Marvel, went to DC and then came back. His style’s not that far off from Yu’s, I could totally see him drawing Hulk somewhere in the next year or so (depending on if he signed an exclusive contract w/ DC or not), a likely gig for him considering all the Hulk stuff in his room lol

I would say it shows he is a fan of the genre of super heroes (while also clearly liking video games and Star Wars), but not the medium. I didn’t see any books by Burns, McCloud, Crumb, Barry, etc, etc…
(But for all I know he could have another room dedicated to non superhero comics)

Take away Green Lantern, and this guy isn’t much of a DC fan at all. That’s all Marvel.

He has more Marvel posters and whatnot, but his Graphic Novel collection looks almost all DC.

See this? This is why I don’t worry when my mom says I’m never getting married. There’s a man out there for every girl geek, and this is proof of it. Call me, Tyler!!!
