The Kickstarter campaign for Franco Aureliani and Art Baltazar Aw Yeah Comics! received widespread and immediate attention, rocketing the series past its $15,000 goal on the very first day. However, a drive for another terrific-looking all-ages project by established creators kicked off last week without that level of publicity.
Gumshoes 4 Hire brings together Sean “Cheeks” Galloway, Kevin Hopps, Gurihiru and DJ Welch for a comic about a group of friends that investigates seemingly petty crimes only to discover the real cause of the troubles in the town of The Cliffs may be the fabled Curse of the Wendigoes.
“Usually, these are the cases the town’s local authorities pretend aren’t happening,” Galloway tells Kickstarter Conversations. “These bizarre cases range from paranormal to real monsters. Although, we will get some scary and serious moments, this book is for all ages, so the reader gets some light humor, too.”
The project, which has been in development since 2009, features two 52-page hardcovers — the actual comic, and a concept book, with character biographies, design and more — with a special-edition slipcase for pledges of $75 or more. The Kickstarter campaign, which launched Friday, has raised more than $13,000 toward its $20,000 goal. Pledge incentives include signed books, shirts, tote bags, sketches and resin sculpts.
