‘Miranda Mercury’ writer Brandon Thomas shares his Shelf Porn

Was super excited when Hasbro started their Star Wars Unleashed line ages ago, but unfortunately, I was a dummy and didn’t snatch them up for regular price, which led to a lot of E-Bay purchases years after most of these were released. Totally worth it though, and will not make the same mistake when the Star Wars Black Label releases start. Other elements here are a collection of random busts, figures, and oversized hardcovers. Also my custom hardcovers of Priest’s Black Panther run and a “classic” bust of the character. And way in the corner, a poster of the only anime I’ve ever loved—Neon Genesis Evangelion. Had that for going on ten years now, and is by far my favorite image of the characters.

This shelf contains my own personal “League of Black Quarterbacks,” and I think the only one missing is Randall Cunningham, who might take a little more time (and money) to nail down. Most of these were actually a surprise gift from my wife back when we started dating, after I casually mentioned at work (where we met) that collecting up all the McFarlane Toy renditions of the black QB’s was something that I’d always intended to do, yet never got around to. She then conspired with another co-worker (a former sports writer) to track a number of them down, with me none the wiser. Was seriously one of the most thoughtful gifts anyone had ever given me ever, and went a long way towards telling me she was a definite keeper.

So there we go, that’s my office/nerd cave/gallery spot where I’m doing the majority of my work now. Sure there’ll be some changes and additions coming (already have this massive new Lion-O Mezco figure to fit in somewhere), but again, think it’s off to a healthy start. Thanks for checking it out and have a great one!

Very cool.

I’m drowning in envy!

very nice !!!!

that is really neat collection espically all the art work you have aquired over the year and your wife really loves you to go all out to get that one print and not reveal what she spent on it after all this time.

Great collection. Where did you get the wood bookshelves? I can relate to the overloading of non-wood shelves…

Thanks everybody for the kind words! Took me a few years of amassing all this, so I’ve been super excited to finally have a space that holds almost all of it.

JenJen- Those are actually from IKEA. It’s called the HEMNES and it’s one of the few bookshelves they have that’s made of solid wood. Comes in the black-brown color there, a lighter gray-brown, and a white.

Thanks again, and Demoncat4, I agree. My wife is pretty awesome…

Best. Wife. Ever.
Oh and your collection’s cool, too :-)

Great collection. I’m curious about that Christopher Priest Black Panther hardback.

Nice use of (I assume) retired “Graphic Novels” signs from your former life as a Barnes & Noble bookseller, Brandon.

And let me second — or third or fourth — the plaudits for your extremely thoughtful wife.

Please tell: Where did the Bats animated series print come from?

Bison4Life- Had them done by a guy named David Banks, who I think used to work for a book bindering company, and has now gone into business for himself. Great guy, very easy to work with, and I think (it was awhile ago)) that I paid roughly 40 bucks for each book, which holds around 25 issues each. Third one is a little shorter, but includes the tail end of the BP run, plus The Crew…

Marc- Wish I had more of the signs, man, but 2 works for now :) The Batman print, titled “Three For Justice” is from the old WB Studio Store, and holds the distinction of being the first thing I ever put on a credit card…

Thanks all for the kind words, especially about my wife!
