Quote of the Day | ‘Try everything. Make mistakes.’

neil gaiman

“The model for tomorrow, and this is the model I’ve been using with enormous enthusiasm since I started blogging back in 2001, is to try everything. Make mistakes. Surprise ourselves. Try anything else. Fail. Fail better. And succeed in ways we never would have imagined a year or a week ago.”

Neil Gaiman, in his keynote address to the London Book Fair’s fifth Digital Minds Conference

I wholeheartedly agree. Aim high. I prefer interesting failures to generic successes. There’s always more stuff for the reader to catch and think about when the writer wants to do something different even when the story fails.

I mean, I don’t think everyone should be doing it. There’s space for various types of narratives, but the more ambitious stories, the happier I am :D

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better. -Sam Beckett

Why does everything Neil Gaiman says sound like it came from an 80s self-help guru?
