Andrew Garfield shoots hoops with kids while dressed as Spidey

When he’s not facing Electro or the Rhino, there are few things your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man enjoys more than playing basketball with a couple of local kids.

Taking a break from filming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in New York City’s Chinatown, star Andrew Garfield headed to a nearby basketball court — in full costume, no less — to take on two pint-sized opponents. And, as the video below shows, they may have gotten the better of him. (As the person who shot the video notes, Garfield’s co-star and girlfriend Emma Stone, aka Gwen Stacy, can also be seen in the video, with the dog.)

This of course isn’t the first time Garfield has popped up unexpectedly dressed as Spider-Man: He made a surprise appearance in a store-bought costume at Comic-Con International 2011, where he delivered a heartfelt speech about what the wall-crawler meant to him as a kid.

“Peter Parker has inspired me to feel stronger,” Garfield said. “He made me, Andrew, braver. He reassured me that by doing the right thing, it’s worth it, it’s worth the struggle, it’s worth the pain, it’s worth even the tears, the bruises and the blood. And I wouldn’t be able to stand here in front of you guys right now without feeling that Spider-Man was here with me, with his reassuring hand on my shoulder making sure I don’t fall over and concuss myself.”

That would have been a huge thrill for those kids. It didn’t take much time for Andrew give those kids a memory they’ll have for a lifetime.

Those are the kids in our basketball program! Come out, volunteer and be like Spider-Man for the kids!

What a class act! If I wasn’t in love with the Amazing Spiderman before, I am now.

Andrew Garfield is so hot!!!

Oh sure, he plays basketball with local kids wearing a skin tight onesie and everyone is charmed. When I do it, people call the police.

This is cool. I’m not the biggest fan of The Amazing Spider-Man, but Andrew Garfield is a class act.

@Derter, i hope your joking! lol
Garfield is an awesome young man, those kids will never forget playing basketball with Spidey.

pure. awesome.

i wouldnt doubt because they put him on blast he stopped playing, give him a break trolls: let spider-man play basketball. i bet he was losing anyway =P

Man I would totally buy an issue that was just Spidey playing b-ball with some kids.

The Bugle headline would be “Masked Menace Ruins Sports For Our Youth!”

Well, this IS the guy who went fanboy at Comic-Con (that video always brings a smile to my face), so I’m not surprised. I love this guy. He’s just so nice and it’s obvious he’s passionate about the role :)
