Wonder Woman to make her ‘Smallville Season 11′ debut

After introducing DC Universe staples ranging from Batman and Nightwing to Monsieur Mallah and the Brain to the world of Smallville, writer Bryan Q. Miller is turning his attention to comics’ best-known superheroine. Or at least an interpretation of her.

In an interview with MTV Geek, Miller reveals August’s Smallville Season 11 #16 will see the debut of Wonder Woman in the world established by the long-running television series, although not by that name. Yet. Still, the writer assures, she is “Diana of Themyscira. Daughter of Queen Hippolyta. Amazon Princess.”

“Consistency and Diana don’t have a very good relationship with one another,” Miller says. There have been a host of different takes, reboots, re-brands, etc. of late. All have their merits and strengths! For Smallville, I’ve tried to mine and exploit the characteristics that, to me, embody the best of any interpretation of Wonder Woman. Strength. Intelligence. Nobility. And, most importantly, Love. But when we first meet Diana, she isn’t being called ‘Wonder Woman’ just yet. She’s got a very specific mission. There’s a very big reason that she left the island, which we’ll eventually cover. Does she have the bracelets? Oh, yes. Like you see on the cover. And pants, of course. Regarding the rest of her ‘traditional’ look — something tells me she might find her way to a lasso and some armor by the time all is said and done!”

Smallville Season 11 #16 goes on sale Aug. 14.

This is wonderful! Smallville Season 11 is such a delightful book and a wonderful escape from the dreadfulness of the new 52 Superman books.

Looking forward to seeing Clark and Diana written as they should be—dear friends and teammates. Also, hoping for some great interaction between Lois Lane and Diana. Yay!

I remember Chloe mentioning to Clark that she met a billionaire with wonderful toys and a wonderous woman, yet this never came up in season 11 when Clark met Batman. Chloe seemed to have no idea who the bat was. I wonder if itll be the same way with Wonder Woman

Oddly enough, I see a bit of a homage to Diana’s early-90’s “biker” look.

Eh, thought WW not getting a chance to appear was a blessing in disguise. Her appearing in this does not excite me one bit. She’s probably going to be as watered down and boring as Superman is.

Why cant people just do Wonder Woman as the adult action heroine she is, and not have to beat around the bush ! Pants is a bad start already. Fans want a more classic look to the Amazon Princess.

You want Wonder Woman as “the adult action heroine she is”, but she can’t wear pants? LOL. Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor, Buffy Summers, Trinity, Alice, The Bride, and others were all so respected and feared, running around in their bathing suits… Oh, wait. They didn’t do that at all. The refusal from Wonder Woman’s fans to allow her attire to be modernized are why she never works in this age.

nice given during when the tv series was on the producers kept saying every season they were not allowed to have wonder woman and batman show up . and now in the comics that wish for smallvile fans is granted the dc trinity hooking up and crossing paths when all are young on small vile first batman. now wonder woman aka diana

At this point–after JMS’s Odyssey, David E. Kelley’s TV pilot, Brian Azzarello, Geoff Johns, and now Grant Morrison–I don’t care anymore whether Wonder Woman wears pants or a bathing suit.
I just want her written properly.

Going on three years now, following Wonder Woman has been a soul-crushing endurance test with no end in sight.
Give me a Wonder Woman that doesn’t make me want to put my fist through a wall–and if that means putting her in pants, then by all means, bring on the pants.

Wow, Wonder Woman fans are actually the worst. And I say that as a Wonder Woman fan.

I’m looking forward to see Wonder Woman’s Smallville debut. I hope Bryan Q. Miller is prepare to put up with her ridiculous fanbase though.

I wonder what her interactions will be with the other characters. We know that her relationship with Clark wont be romantic. But how would Lois react to her? How Chloe and Ollie? How would Batman react to her? Would she and him be a couple? ( God I hope so)

So around this time last year we found out Batman was coming to Smallville and got the issue in August. This year we got WW, and pretty much the last major Justice Leaguer we’re missing now is Green Lantern. Does that mean we’ll be getting a GL announcement in the not-so-distant future?

Yeah, because when she’s saddled with pants it’s worked out so well hasn’t it? JMS Odyssey? Utter TRAIN Wreck…David E Kelly’s TV Pilot? EPIC Fail.
Her unique costume is what makes her audience identify her as WW versus the literally hundreds of cardboard cut out heroines out there that talk tough and show compassion. Turning into a star spangled buffy is nothing short of throwing away the WW brand and all it stands for. Her costume is iconic. She is the most recognisable superheroine in the world. Whether someone has ever a read a comic in their life or not, pretty much every man and woman on the street will know a picture of WW when they see her. That’s a huge asset not a negative millstone around her neck. Diana doesn’t need pants. She needs to be WRITTEN properly. The rest will take care of itself.

She is a symbol of female empowerment. She is a woman in man’s world who is not afraid or embarrassed by her femininity. Her costume is one of her greater assets. It screams “Look at me. I’m a woman. I’m proud to be one. Deal with it.
Putting a pair of pants on her is the equivalent of saying to her “stop looking like a woman dear…you’re embarrassing yourself and your overt femininity is scaring us. Please put a pair of pants on so you can look more like a man, because after all you’re really JUST a female equivalent of Superman after all, right?”
THAT’s why WW fans get angry….

Looks like Palicki and Welling are about to BANG on that cover.

Trunkless Superman, Wonder Woman with pants, Hulk in armor, covered in chainmaille Thor. Some day the classic costumes will be back and this nonsense of messing up with the iconic looks will be over.

I picked up Smallville again because of Lana’s appearance since I’m a Clanaholic and Cat’s art which I like. Lana’s long hair was her trademark, I know in the last episodes of the tv series she had shorter hair but that was because the actress cut it for Street Fighter. I wish they had given her the long hair back in her Smallville comic appearance. I’m glad to see Wonder Woman is slated next because I surely have never been able to stand Lois much so I might still pick up the comic after Lana’s story is over.

Since the New 52 I’ve had an irrational intense dislike of Wonder Woman, and have avoided anything and everything involving ‘the princess’. Now that it’s time to let go of Smallville too. Thanks Brian Q Miller.

The whole deal with Amazons and WW is that theyre amazing gregarious, intelligent, fun, super strong fabulous and gorgeous women…now being a gorgeous woman doesnt make them lesser in any way. These perceptions that sexuality dominates WW because certain people cant get a handle that beauty brawn and brains is AWESOME & what an Amazon is all about.
Their definition was never vs a man…She is a great woman who loves and feels and can block bullets and throw a truck at you….she is WONDERFUL…inspiring and the coolest heroine ever.
She could jump around naked and still be respected cause she is a woman and woman do have tits etc…
BUT its up to YOU as a man/woman or whatever to respect her…she shouldnt ask for it…just cause she give you a stiffy…dont shove a burkha on her….your stiffy is your problem.
It like that BS when women wear little skirts theyre asking for trouble…NO….
I also am pissed all the great crazy gadgets have her the WW pool…the invisible plane and the invention of the Amazons are gone…now the Amazons are Xena-like but with high school cheer-leader bitchiness.
Im looking forward to this interpretation of WW
I also hope there could be a movie were love and coolness are the cornerstones of the cinema release with an epic soundtrack…
