How ‘Man of Steel’ should’ve ended (again, with Batman?)

Screen Shot 2013-07-16 at 2.36.51 PM

Like the recently did with Iron Man 3, the folks at How It Should Have Ended turn their attention to another big summer superhero movie — Man of Steel. Just like their alternate ending to IM3, this one ends with an appearance by a certain Caped Crusader … but he isn’t the only guest star this one features.

Check it out below.

About what I expected from my fellow old school Superman fans. I almost wish they would get to write some actual Superman adventures.

It’s like the movie has a giant bullseye on it saying “Hey HISHE crew, here’s the ones you hit!”

I guess the vocal minority is still bitter that the non-comic buying public liked this version of Superman so much…

Batman is in all the HISHE’s. Derp.

So is Superman, for that matter. They always end with Batman and Superman in that diner discussing the ending. Have you guys only seen the 2 or something? lol

No Steve, they don’t.

I know plenty of non-comic book fans that think it was a piece of shit.

Jesus, anyone that just enjoys well written, exciting films that make sense know it was a piece of shit.

Such a crap film.

I wanted an awesome fight scene…I just didn’t want one that ended with the total and utter destruction of Metropolis (and Smallville), millions of people dying and Superman breaking Zod’s neck.

Man, DC’s really driven away all of its readers who aren’t bitter, angry little dismemberment fetishists, hasn’t it?

The great thing is, with a little script jimmying, that TOTALLY could have worked as the end to Man of Steel. It’s not even a parody. Superman punches Zod with his baby ship and sends him into the Phantom Zone. That’s a workable ending. Make out with Lois, fly into space, smile at the camera, roll credits. 90-odd minutes of super-fun.

And anyone who thinks box office take equals quality, or even enjoyment, I have three words: “The Phantom Menace”.

My seven year old nephew loved the Phantom Menace when we saw it last year. His favorite part was the droid army collapsing at the end when the hero saves the day.

I took him to see Man of Steel (after he expressed an interest). I knew it was PG-13, so I asked his mom if it was OK. She said, “Yeah, it’s Superman, so I’m sure its OK. It’s not like Batman or X-Men.” (We both read comics as kids, and she is knowledgeable about comics and their general thematic approaches and values) He cried. He was devastated. He asked me if Superman was a hero or not. The alternative/parody ending in the video above would have made more sense to an eight year old. Call me a curmudgeon, but Man of Steel was not the Superman I want my kids to grow up with.

Kang, I have also heard friends talking about kida who were terrified during Man of Sucks. Everyone involved should be ashamed of themselves.
