SDCC ’13 | Dynamite bringing Fox’s ‘Bob’s Burgers’ to comics

Continuing its avalanche of pre-convention announcements, Dynamite Entertainment this morning revealed it has partnered with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products to develop a comic based on the animated comedy Bob’s Burgers.

Debuting in January 2011 as part of Fox’s Sunday night animation block, Bob’s Burgers centers on the Belcher family — Bob, his wife Linda and their children Tina, Gene and Louise — who run a hamburger restaurant. Although overshadowed on the schedule by The Simpsons and Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers may be one of the most consistently funny, and quirky, shows on television (animated or otherwise). The fourth season premieres in September.

“We could not be more pleased to add Bob’s Burgers to the our line of comics,” Dynamite CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci said in a statement. “It’s stylish and hilarious, a feel-good concept that can be both heartwarming and mischievous at the same time.  When we told our team that we were approaching Fox for the license, everyone lit up at the opportunity.  We look forward to working with our partners at Fox to put out a fantastic product that will appeal to readers of all ages.”

The creative team hasn’t been announced.

BOB-sterfest!!

The voice acting is such a vital part of the appeal of the show that it could be pretty hard to translate to comics, but hey, I loved the Ren & Stimpy comics Marvel used to put out so there’s a chance the writer of the Bob’s Burgers comics could nail the tone as well.

Why do Gene and Louise look so off-model in that picture? They look downright weird.

I’ve checked out some of the other cartoon adaptions but probably pass on this one. Bob’s wife is funny but I hate the character Tina.
